Hey forums, I've been wanting to build a computer for the first time, and with the new AM3 chips, I thought it was the perfect time to try. I just wanted to run it by Tomshardware as you guys seem to know best.

Here's my build. Comments and suggestions are welcome!

https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=9253665

Case: Antec 900 $100

PSU: Corsair 650TX $100

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P DDR3 AMD $140
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128378

CPU: PhenomII X3 2.8ghz $145
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103649

RAM: G.Skill 2x2GB DDR3 1333 $70
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231190

GPU: HD4870 1GB $220
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102815

HDD: WD Caviar Black 7200.12 640GB $80
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136319

DVD: LG 22x DVD Burner $23
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136152

Subtotal = ~$900

My primary concern is if the power supply is powerful enough with the graphics card. As well as if the mobo is compatible with the graphics card.
I'd also like to shave off some costs if I can, so if anyone knows of cheaper deals on zzf, or anything else, please share them! Also, I don't plan on doing much overclocking, not sure if that matters. Please critique away.

Thanks!

It looks pretty good, but DDR3 isn't really worth it right now IMO. AMD doesn't seem to think the AM3 platform is fully baked yet and still has some issues to work out. I would just get this mobo and this ram:

I would also recommend going with a Corsair 750tx or PC P&C 750w Silencer, which will only cost a few bucks more and allow you to xfire that GPU down the road.

The CM 690 is a very good case as well and if you wanted to cut a little off the price you could go with that and not sacrifice any cooling, the 690 is actually a bit bigger widthwise which makes fitting a cpu cooler in there easier.

Speaking of which, get a cpu cooler so you can overclock this rig and get your money's worth out of it. Overclocking is a free upgrade and if done right will not damage your system.

650 watt is easily enough for the build listed in the first post . Anything more would just be over kill .

Only plan on adding a second gfx card if you intend to make that upgrade in the next couple of months . Usually if you havent done it by then you are better off buying single card from the next generation which seems to roll around every 6-9 months or so

Just use the one you picked, its probably the best value for an AMD chip on the market. You can run all current AM3 processors in AM2+ boards.
