I need to find a heatsink/fan for my 955BE with an available upwards airflow. Dual-fan push/pull option with at least one fan included, I have one extra 120mm to add. Budget pricing (less than $40) and able to fit a Antec 300 Illusion case. My measurement for the case seems like it will fit up to 160mm tall HS maybe a few millimeters less. I have found a few decent priced such as the Xigmatek Gaia SD1283 but this one and all the others I've looked at blow towards the back only, not the top.
I am doing mild overclocking with the CPU: 3.4GHz now, it idles @ 33-36C, stress tests and games @ 52-57C. Definitely plan on upping the CPU after the new HS.
I am hoping someone has some advice or actual system using this same setup I am seeking. Searched through Newegg and online but don't seem to find a good, low priced one, with changeable orientation.

The Hyper 212+ does quite well and can be installed in either orientation and will fit in an Antec 300 case, it comes real close but it fits, the fan it comes with isnt the quietest but it does a much better job than the stock heatsink, upgraded to it a bit over a month ago and im quite happy with it.

I know this isn't exactly what you were asking for but you wont necessarily need an upward blowing HS fan. I have an Antec 300 and a coolermaster HS blowing toward the rear fan. They match up in perfect alignment and are only about 2 inches from one another. So my push/pull HS fans blow right out my rear fan. The top fan will then catch any residual heat that may not have been caught by the rear fan. But honestly it is very very little. I notice no heat coming out my top fan.

Sorry about that. I use the COOLER MASTER Hyper N 520 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103057. While not quite as good as the 212 plus it is very close. The reason I got the 520 and not the 212 was because I found it on sale for $12. Hard to beat at that price.

last few hours i've seen a lot about the hyper 212+ on here. most praising how well it works, the others I imagine are just too dumb to seat it right. no one stating temp differences between it and stock cooler with phenom II that i've read. what kind of temp difference have you seen?

that link to Newegg says it's a deactivated item. i'll definitely look around for it, much rather be spending $15 than ~$40.

Just found this XIGMATEK HDT-S1284F 120mm HYPRO Bearing CPU Cooler to throw into the mix. Now, I can get either airflow direction and save some $. Still, haven't decided yet.

P.S. Also just had my crap-ass AsRock M3A770DE board burn out so there went the cash for this month. Got a cheap replacement AsRock (don't ask me why I tried them again, guess jus to save a few $) 890GX Pro3 AM3+ that is an awesome board, way better than anything else I've seen at this price. And guess what? I can't access the freakin UEFI BIOS! Jus get a frozen black screen everytime I try. My settings are mostly stuck at stock or below for now. :fou: AVOID ASROCK!

why dont you get an rma, or try to update the bios?
have tried everything i can think of including updating BIOS and reverting BIOS. jus get an RMA? yeah, i wanna pay shipping AGAIN and be out of a pc AGAIN. this one is a replacement for another board I had just RMA'd for other reasons. might wait til the other returns and try but I really dont wanna be spending more for this kinda crap.

you should try to post the bios problem in he asus forums:
http://vip.asus.com/forum/
or contact asus support:
http://support.asus.com/ServiceHome.aspx?SLanguage=en

asus support are quite helpful, when my motherboard burnt out along with my CPU (was really my fault lol), they gave me a free upgrade instead of a replacement! (probably because of how much i complained.)
tried ASRock with no response, but guess i'll try tellin their parents on em too. thanx

UEFI problem was the HDMI display runnin to my SAMSUNG TV.
never had an issue using it as a monitor until now. tried an old CRT monitor on vga and it started up the UEFI fine. the HDMI cable just has to be unplugged and remain that way for the UEFI to load for some reason.

back to actual Heatsink thread, haven't seen much new so guessing i'm going for the HYPER 212+. thanks everyone contributing

Have finally got the Hyper 212+ on my Phenom II 955. Idles around 30°, Prime95 after an hour got to 47°.

Also fixed accessing UEFI\BIOS with HDMI TV with a new AsRock BIOS update 1.31 they have finally emailed to me, 2 months later!
