Howdy!

I own a Phenom II X4 965 BE + M4A785TD-V EVO and the setup was kicking good until my mobo starts to show signs of it's own death (after 6 years 😀). I'm pretty sure it will fail soon, so i hereby ask:

Is it worth to replace the mobo and stick with it some more couple of years or should i grab the opportunity and build a new rig?

If you can afford to do a full system upgrade, it certainly is worthwhile doing one now, though at the moment Intel is your only real upgrade option, AMD's current offerings are quite old and aren't nearly as big a jump over your old Phenom II. A current Skylake i5, like the 6500 will be twice as fast as your Phenom II X4. An i7 would be even faster if you have software that scales beyond 4 cores and 4 threads. Plus you get all sorts of new and faster connectivity options your old platform lacked like USB 3.0/3.1, PCI-E 3.0, SATA 6Gbps, M.2 and so on.

If you're hard pressed for cash, you could get an AM3+ board which would have some of the above features and try to ride out your CPU for another couple of years.
