So I'm pretty curious on this one. I've had this thing for a while and it's been great. Have it overclocked to a stable 3.8Ghz

So with my current overclock in stand, how does that hold up to the current CPUs out there now? (Is trying to squeeze every bit of life out of it)

I can say from experience, I just upgraded to the 4670k from a OC Q6600 @ 3.4GHz...... wow man if you have the 400 - 500 to spend on new board, ram, and cpu, DO IT!!! But to be honest I would wait until the next release. Your cpu isn't that old, but you would be amazed in performance difference in a newer chip.

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1711976/upgrading-4670k-phenom-1055t-worthwhile.html

To put this in prospective.

I5 4670K $220.00
1055T $174.00
FX 8350 $189.99

I5 4670k is 73% faster without OC than the 1055T, just hurts buying a new Mobo/ram I know.. You will see the same type of increase with a FX8350. But again if you can make it work for yourself then waiting for Kavari to come out would benefit no matter what. Price drops or just getting the newest model.

to Answer your question directly - Your chip wouldn't last very long in the ring with any of the new enthusiast CPUs

That would be a stock comparison right? I'm not sure how much overclocking will help in my case, I think I was finally able to push it to a stable 4Ghz OC (Northbridge to around 2.5) yesterday. So honestly if I could get anywhere close to possibly an FX 6300 I'd be happy (but doubtful).

To be honest, it doesn't compare. That CPU was fantastic in it's time. I had a phenom (not the 1055T) and it was a beast in overclocking and gaming. The fact is, CPUs are advancing at such a rate that nothing from the previous generation will ever hold it's own against the newer technologies. Read up on Moore's law. It's an interesting subject.

You will still be able to play games maxed out with high end GPUs like the 980/970/290x/290 on 1080p. Will it get a steady 60FP'S, not in most games because the 1055T is indeed a bottleneck to high end GPUs, but it will be above 30. The question is what your need is.

It can't compete with current CPUs at stock clocks, but it is no way useless either. Give it an OC like you have or 4GHz+ and it will perform a bit better. With DX12 suppise to giving CPUs some headroom you could probably squeeze out a little more from the CPU

Will an upgrade help? Definitely. Unless your motherboard is an AM3+ you will need to switch motherboards, and in that case switching to Intel makes more sense

I realized this is an old thread and that I probably didn't even need to post here

Comparable to something like FX6350, I agree it is a good CPU, don't change for anything from AMD unless you want to change your platform and jump to Intel, there you can consider a real upgrade
