Hey everybody!
Merry Christmas!

I'm thinking of bying a new monitor and I would like to buy a good one, 19". I was first thinking of bying a Hitachi, but after seeing one in action I did not like it at all. Had some black curved lines at the edges at certain frequenses. My friend has a 17"B philips and it looks great, do you smart people have any reason why I shouldn't buy one? Has anyone maybe 109B or 109S?

One more thing. Can anybody show off, and explain to me the dot pitch thingy? No need for kid talk though! 🙂

Thanks
Óskar

"First post since the delphi forums!"

I recommend the Philips Brilliance 109P which I have. It's a 100% flat triniton CRT. But they are expensive. The one I got had been in the store for a few weeks so I got it cheaper. This monitor delivers jaw-dropping image stability and vibrant colors in every resolution up to 1600x1200@85Hz. I use it most of the time at 1280x1024@85Hz because that's more suitable for 19".

Dot pitch is the distance between two phosphors of the same color on the screen. You also have the horizontal, vertival and diagonal dot pitch. It's just the size if the smallest dot that can be displayed on the screen.

I do agree in part, on your positive comments about the Philips monitors, however I do have reservations on the brand.

Recently I purchased a Philips 201P10 monitor, with the 21" Trinitron screen. I had to replace the monitor, under the 7 day DOA warranty agreement, as there was a black dot on the aperture grill. It appears one of the wires broke!!

Anyway, after getting the replacement I found that my 2nd monitor had a few flaws in the display.

#1 Slight red colour impurity in the top centre of the screen. This causes the picture to display a light redeish/purple colour, when showing a blank red screen.

I've tried to adjust for this problem with the colour purity controls, which adjust the colour in the screen corners, but I can't get rid of the colouration in the top centre.

#2 Curved top edges. When I adjusted the geometry of the screen to show a square image, I noticed that the top inch of the screen bends slightly to the right. I can't find a control that adjusts for this. The screen itself looks undamaged, so I'm not sure if this is a problem with the projection system, or a bend in the aperture grill itself.

Either way it's bloody annoying.

At this stage, I can't wait to get my hands on the flat LCD screens. Over the past 4 years EVERY CRT monitor that I've owned ( 4 in fact ) has had a problem either with colour impurities or screen distortion.

I'm sick to the back teeth with this inferior and haphazard technology, and the sooner I can move on to the next generation if visual displays the BETTER!!

Have you ever looked at a Sony FD Trinitron monitor series?
I personaly think Philips monitors are S H I T!
Sony, although they have 2 line on screen (2 wires holding
the Trinitron Grid!) which can be anoying until you get used to it, they have the best image quality , and the smaller dot pitch!
You can´t go wrong with a Sony monitor , any size!
Sure , they´re expensive , but they worth every cent!

Dot pitch is the distance between the points that form up the image ,( the smaller the better!) (Sorry! It´s the most simple definition that i could come up with!)

If you don´t go with a Sony , you could consider a
Mitsubishi DiamondTron which is very good also!

Stay clear of Philips!

Well thanks for the tip, but you didn't give any reason for not buying Philips. You only pointed out that Sony was expensive and that it has those very very very anoying lines. But hey, give things time and you get used to it right.
But anyways, I would really like some facts, rather than somebodies personal "just because" answer. 🙂

Haven´t I?

Image Quality! (Of all monitors!)
Smallest Dot pitch in it´s size range! (All sizes!)
Anti-glare surface!

Try looking for one and then tell me what you think!
As for Philips, Ripperjack speaks badly enough on their account!

Anyone which know their way in the monitor field will
tell you that Sony´s got the better image quality!
And what´s really important on a monitor? The quality of the image!

But nevermind my own opinion!

Did not mean to offend you, I appreciate your opinion, just wanted facts or something to back it up. Would you take all that I said to you about something for granted and follow it blindly? 🙂

Anyways, I will take another look at Sony, and thanks again for you input. 🙂

Yes I have had the 109s since they came out i think, I have have nothong but praise for them, ok its the cheaper version but at the time it was the best around and I think still puts up a good show compared to some of the new ones.Currently running refresh 100mhz and res 1024 x 768 x 32. Have had it higher, no need tho.

what black lines did you exactly see? on the bottom and top? and what frequences are you talking about? Hitachi is way much better monitor then Philips. Did you ever think about Samsung?
