Phoenix Pro 120 Gb not recognized by Windows

I have a G.Skill Phoenix Pro 120 Gb SATA 2 FM-25S2S-120GBP2.

The rest of my system is as follows.

Asus P6T X58 with up to date firmware and drivers.
Intel i7 920 at stock speed and voltage.
6 Gb DDR3 at 1600 Mhz.
AMD HD 5870.
750W PSU
Plus two other HDD and a BD drive.
Plus just bought a SanDisk Ultra Plus 128 Gb SSD SDSSDHP-128G-G25.

Yes, I know it is a little dated but I do not do much gaming anymore and if anything it is over powered for my needs.

Anyway, so the problem at hand. My Phoenix Pro 120 Gb drive has been my faithful boot drive with Windows 7 for several years. A few weeks ago I could no longer boot into windows. I go into the BIOS and the drive is listed and the BIOS recognizes the drive by name, FM-25S2S-120GBP2. So it is definitely not a cable or power problem.

When booting with the Windows 7 disk and trying to use system recovery options the drive never appears as an option to repair. When using command prompt from system recovery options and requesting diskpart is does not appear either.

I just got another SSD that I was going to use for games but now have it as my boot drive. When this new SSD is used and the Phoenix Pro is not connected everything works fine. If I try to connect the Phoenix Pro and use the new SSD as the boot drive it just hangs at the windows splash screen. So even if I am not using the Phoenix Pro as the boot drive I can not get into Windows with it attached.

I have everything that was on the Phoenix Pro backed up so I have no problem with reformatting it if needed. What can I do to get the Phoenix Pro recognized by windows?

I have seen several others forum posts stating similar problems with the Phoenix Pro and it usually has to do with windows no longer having the driver installed for the Phoenix Pro. Unfortunately, I have not seen any solutions to my specific problem.

You need to make sure that AHCI is enabled for the SSD and in Windows 7, quick boot disabled. Make sure you have the proper boot order.

ACHI is enabled and the initiall windows installation was done with ACHI enabled. the new windows install on the SanDisk was done with ACHI enabled also. quick boot is disabled.

To fully understand - is this what you need:
1) The new SSD has been installed, the old SSD was removed from the system and Windows was installed on the new SSD.
2) The system operates normally with the new SSD, only when the old SSD is installed do you have problems.
3) You have a full backup of the old SSD.

If this is what happened - I would put the SSD in a USB dock and remove the partitions. Windows may be trying to boot from the old SSD.

that is partially correct.

1. old ssd stopped working and windows wouldn't boot.
2. old ssd was recognized in bios but not by windows recovery tools.
3. new ssd works fine as boot drive with out old ssd.
4. old ssd attached again and recognized by bios.
5. new ssd selected as boot drive.
6. hangs at windows splash screen.

i thought about the usb dock but i do not have one. any suggestions for a cheap alternative?

Usually you can find them at a computer store like Fry's or MicroCenter for $20 or so. BestBuy is going to charge about $40 or more....NewEgg and Amazon both have quite a few online....
