2) "<font color=blue>Is this criticism justified</font color=blue>" Yes. This was quite possibly <i>the</i> worst CPU comparison I've ever seen THG do. One of the noticably bad things about it was, as said in your link, their choice to GPU-limit a CPU benchmark.

seems justified to me. Although, I must say, there is also something to say for the methodology THG used. It is relevant to see indeed for most (current!) games, its not the cpu holding you back.

In a cpu review however, I would also like to see how these cpu's will might perform on future, more demanding games, and/or with future faster videocards, and then bottlenecking them with these video settings doesn't make sense. Ideally, you'd do both, low res and maybe a couple of high res/quality tests.

As for the farcry results.. suspicious to say the least.

They should have also compared against dual CPU platforms, IMHO. THG doesn't do a lot of things that they should lately.

THG used to be a good reference in terms of reviews. Now, I mostly read xbit-Labs, AnandTech and HardOPC.

These 3 sites offers much better hardware reviews. THG is now a "brand", it does not mean excellence anymore.

The time of analyzing "how THG became worse day by day" is over. Now it's time to only laugh at the articles/writers and the losers who read them.

In the beginning of time (around year 1998) THG was the best. I remember when I found it. It was everything, the real place to learn about hardware. The right place to go if you want to know of what a computer hardware is really made of, shame on you marketing.

But after I heard that Thomas Pabst had sold the site the reviews quality dropped down.

What else can I say?

I noticed they edited the Farcry results. Interestingly, although the scores are all really the same (no wonder with these video settings), *both* Pentiums are now on top of the chart..

Who was it that thought THG might have lost some friends at intel ?
