This is the set up I have at the moment, not set on anything. If one part seems excessive and the money could be spend to upgrade a different part I am willing to swap parts. Trying to see if this set up is appropriately set up for what I will be using it for. I am also trying to figure out if I am missing any components ( need more fans or cooling system?) or anything else. Thank you.

1. Since u have an ATX case: consider ATX Gigabyte 880GA-UD3H/ 870A-UD3?
2. Hmm no gaming needs $49AR free ship 9800GT?

3. Antec/Corsair/OCZ 80+ 450-500W PSU good to go ^^
4. Consider 1055T
5. AM3 is dual channel so 2 x 2 or 2 x 4 for RAM
6. Consider 2 x F3 1TBs?
7. Possible mobo + ram combo for consideration?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.424666
8. Possible to squeeze in 50-80GB SSD there me thinks hehe

^ Good choice wiht the 6-core...A very good CPU IMO for such tasks...But you should also have checked the i7 930 right??

As for the parts, here are some suggestions...
PSU - There are better ones...
Get this case + PSU - A very good case with good airflow and this PSU is of very good quality and is modular too...
CM 690 Black + CM Silent PRO 600W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.422476

RAM - Dont go with Tri-Channel kits - 3 RAM sticks...If you populate 3 or 1 RAM slot, then the RAM wont run in Dual-Channel...Those kits are good for X58 platforms as the i7 9xx CPUs have Tri-Channel memory controllers...
Get this RAM if you want to have a upgrade option - 2x 4GB kit as you will have 2 RAM slots free so that if you need more RAM, you can add them later on...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231308

Graphics card - IMO going with a Nvidia card would be a good option as many 3D rendering apps and Photoshop take advantage of CUDA - Nvidia tech...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500152

If you have money left, then you can get SSD for OS and apps and they act as very good scratch disks too...

If you have any questions do post them here...

Yea I agree, if not gaming, then you would see a big performance increase from a Quadro card. You have the budget for a decent one, and it will perform better in your case than a CUDA enabled gaming GPU.

Should handle your needs quite well.

If you do OC, you can pick up an aftermarket cooler for ~$30 bucks. The CoolerMaster Hyper 212+ is a good choice.

This might sounds like a stupid question, but this is my first build. With Transmaniacon's set there is less RAM and a less powerful CPU per core, and the money is moved to:

PNY Quadro FX 1800 - $559.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] -_-Product

what advantage does this have over the gaming cards, why so much more money? Will the drop in CPU and RAM effect over all processing time? Also what does "mobo" stand for?

Thanks for everyone's help so far. Very much appreciated.

You can easily overclock the 1055T to match the speed of the Thuban, the only difference is the Thuban has an unlocked multiplier making OCing easier. You may want to add another 4GB of RAM. It puts you over budget, but it helps a lot with the kind of multitasking you will be doing. For all that 3D modeling and rendering, the GPU takes a big load off the CPU. CUDA is what these types of applications use, and while the gaming GPUs have CUDA, a workstation card excels in this regard moreso. I would take a 1055T + FX1800 over a 1090T + GTS250 anyday.

What 3d rendering programs are you using?

From my experience using 3ds Max 2009 to render complex scenes, the difference between the consumer level nvidia cards and the quadros/firegls is negligible. I can honestly say that the slight increase in stability while rotating in a viewport is not worth the premium the workstation cards charge. Add to that the fact that 3ds Max doesn't use the gpu to render, and you have a workstation card that is overpriced and uneccessary.

I'd even opt for the intel i7-930 over any hex core amd cpu.

I am most concerned about photoshop use and photo modeler scanner? For the price and what I will be using it for is it work it to spend an extra 250$ on the gpu?

OK....I think I have decided to no go with the workstation gpu because from what I have read the money to performance is not worth it in my price point...please let me know if this is incorrect. Below is what I am looking at as my final build I think. Let me know.

A little over budget but I can swing it..

^ Nice build, but why the change in the mobo ??
IMO you wont need the 890FX...
Go with your initial choice or either of these...

And as for the HDD, Samsung F3 would be better - Cheaper, faster and more reliable than the current Seagates...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.425801

As for the graphics card, like you said sometimes the performance doesnt warrant the price premium that it commands...
And get the Zotac as it supports OpenGL 3.2

CPU + SSD combo
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.398862
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.398871

IMO going with a bigger SSD might be a good idea or buying 1 more and putting it in RAID will also be nice as 30GB might not suffice when you load up the OS, apps...also you would need atleast 20% free space for a SSD to work with optimum performance...So with the money saved on the mobo add ~$20 more and get 1 more SSD in RAID 0...

I realize the workstation GPU is pricy, but if you compare the build you just posted with mine, you have just ended up spending more money in unnecessary places, and not really improved your performance much at all. The only significant advantage you have is the SSD, but at your price point, you are going to take a hit on other more crucial things by going with an almost ~$300 SSD...

"heavy and complex Photoshop/Illustrator, Rhino/Cinema 4D, and Photo Modeler Scanner which is a photogrammetry program."

I really feel you are going to need more than the GTS250, like Jack said, if you don't want to pony up for a quadro, the GTX470 is the next best option.

^ I doubt that the GTX 4xx series would offer significant performance increase over the GTS 250 for rendering purposes and not to forget the $200 price difference which is not negligible...
If you really want to get a Fermi, then I would rather suggest you to wait as Nvidia will be launching newer Fermi cards based on GF104, which should be priced lower yet offer very good performance...Probable launch by July...So maybe till then get a cheap GT220/ GT240 card...

Ok. After reading everyone's comments this is what I am set on. I realize that the video card is going to be a under power for the time being but it is something I will plan on upgrading in the near future. Let me know if there are any glaring omissions of parts or parts will not function together. Thanks for everyone's help.
