Ok...so...instead of a complete build...I think I'm going to upgrade my current PC in stages. By stages I mean most of it now...GPU and case later. GPU's are just completely stupid right now so with the speculation (fingers crossed) that ethereum miners are going to get spanked sometime this year...I, like many others, will be hoping the pricing and availability of GPU's will be back to within reason. So anyways....I'm thinking right now that if I do the CPU/Mobo, RAM, and add in some more SSD storage...I should be ok for a bit until I can get my hands on a reasonably priced GPU upgrade. Something like this....

Current setup is a dual-core CPU with 8GB DDR3 RAM and a GTX 1060 6GB GPU.
I'll be re-using my case, power supply (it's fairly new and 650w gold rated), and GPU. Case and GPU will both eventually be changed but trying to save money right now. I figure even though the GPU will be a bottleneck...I should see some decent performance improvements going from dual-core to 8 core and from 8GB of DDR3 to 32GB of DDR4. Just hoping the GPU doesn't hold things back too much.

I do want to upgrade and increase storage as well. I'm looking at something M.2 and 1 or 2 TB. But I don't know what specs to look at for the best performance for the dollar for photo editing. Since this will be the storage I'll be working off of...I'd like something with decent transfer speeds. Thoughts?

I would go with the 12600k and a ddr4 motherboard. Better performance and more upgradeability.
