Photo print paper size

I have a Canon Pixma i5000 printer and think the trimming function of
the Canon Easy Photo Print software is very nice.

However the program only recognizes a very limited selection of paper
sizes such as A4, 4x6 and 5x7. I would like to print in A5 (A4 cut in
half because I'm cheap!) but can't find a way to input this to the
program.

Does anyone have a suggestion on what to do?

Or is there an alternative program that also has a nice trimming
function but allows you to change paper size?

I'm not familiar with Canon printers but the Epson printers I have used have
a "user defined" setting. Check to see if there is something similar in
your Canon.

By trimming function do you mean cropping? Easy Photo Print software is
easy and convenient for someone who doesn't want to learn a more complex
program, but it has very few functions. It is a sort of "dumbed-down" photo
management program for people who want to simply set up the printer and
start printing pictures. If you want to print borderless prints you have to
use the Canon preset sizes, 4x6, 5x7, 8.5x11. With other software you can
print any size up to the printer's max size but only the preset sizes
borderless. There are lots of software packages that can be used to correct
or alter photos, resize them, and print. I use Photoshop Elements 3 which
has a fairly long learning curve but is worth it, in my estimation, if you
want to improve your pictures and print to any size (up to the largest limit
of the printer). I got started with Photo Shop Elements 2 and the Dummy
book and progressed with other aftermarket texts on the program. It is
pretty easy to learn a dozen or so functions to just get started and then
add to your knowledge and ability from there.
