Photo Program

Hi - I have a Dell xps 1645, windows 7 home premium...just got it. I noticed there are many programs that handle photos and videos. (Media center, roxio, windows live, etc). Could someone suggest the best program or location to import to? Without adding any other software, just the few that are already there that i've mentioned. It's just confusing because it seems that photos become scattered between the programs. When i say best, i know it's an opinion but i'd like to hear it and why.

I can't imagine myself browsing and working with pictures without the Picasa software.

Easy and good looking interface, and - free.

*It works only with pictures (not video)
