Photos combination from two iPhones

From a recent trip I got photos from both my iPhone and my gfs device. What's the best way to store the photos in any of the phones or on a PC but have them sorted by date like they are on the iPhone's sorted?

Install iTunes, connect both phones to a PC, download photos in same folder, then sort photos by "date taken".
