Photoshop 7.0 stopped opening! :(

My new laptop is less than a month old to start. Is far more than
capable of handling Photoshop but it completely stopped opening on me
with no error message at all! It will get as far as "initializing"
then just CLOSES!

I have tried everything I can think of. I have uninstalled Photoshop
and reinstalled 3 times now. I have deleted every folder on the
computer (after uninstallation) that has anything to do with
Photoshop. Ran disk cleanup and defregmentor.. I’m just about out of
ideas!!

A couple weeks ago I was running a 30 day trial of Photoshop CS and
after 4 days it said my 30 day trial was up... so I uninstalled it.
Then went to a real copy of 7.0 that I’ve been running on my home
computer for months.

Another problem I had with both copies the whole time is that a lot of
the tools, clone stamp, burn tool, dodge tool and airbrush just didn’t
work... I had to mess with stupid settings for a long time one day to
get them to work half assed.

Any ideas?!! PLEASE!!!

Try re-naming the Photoshop preferences file and then try starting
Photoshop. In Phototshop CS it is the file "Adobe Photoshop CS
Prefs.psp" in "Documents and Settings\User\Application
Data\Adobe\Photoshop\8.0\Adobe Photoshop CS Settings".

A corruption in that file will stop Photoshop from opening. If you
had any customizations saved in the re-named preferences file you will
have to remake them.

I tried installing it into a new place and uninstalling it.

I tried hitting and holding shift+alt+ctrl while opening it to reset
the preferences.

I’ve uninstalled it like 6 times now and reinstalled.. restarted
repeat. UGH!

I can’t find the preferences file inside the Adobe folder. I’m using
7 not CS. Anyone???

Again, the prefs file is located:

Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Prefs.psp:

/Application Data/Adobe/Photoshop/7.0/Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Settings

For what it's worth - I had this exact issue this morning - found this thread - did nothing other than rename the prefs file and it worked beautifully - THanks Scott177!!!!!
