Hello everyone. I have a WD my passport USB hard drive which I've had in use for sometime for storage. I also use Photoshop which is installed on my main C: which is an SSD. lately I've been working on a large piece in photoshop and after a certain amount of work done in the program I get a message saying could not complete <whatever action> because the scratch disks are full. Indeed when I check my free space on my C: after I get this message, there's almost nothing free. I usually get around this by simply closing the program and opening it again which refreshes my disk space.
I then decided to change the location of the photoshop scratch disks from my C: to my WD passport as it had much more free space. After this change, I resumed work in photoshop and after a while it just stopped responding. My guess is that the scratch disks became full on the WD but that seems to have really messed it up.
After PS became unresponsive I had to end process in the TM. My passport showed up in my computer (H
but it had no memory bar like my other drives. If I tried to click it (one click) windows explorer would stop responding and crash. Windows was also trying to automatically install driver software for it but it said failed to do so. After restarting my comp a few times, the passport no longer shows up in my computer or disk manager. The light is on, it is humming and windows even does the beep noise when i plug or unplug it.
I have tried some of the suggestions Ive read here on similar threads but no luck. Recovery software such as Photorec can't even find my device. It does appear in the device manager so I tried a suggestion I had read to delete and reinstall it. However when I click uninstall it brings up the window saying its uninstalling but that will remain there indefinitely - i am forced to end process.
I am currently out of ideas, would really appreciate any tips or insights. Many thanks
UPDATE: For some reason in the device manager the name/icon of my WD device had a small yellow exclamation icon next to it (wasnt there before) after this appeared I tried uninstalling it again, which now worked. I unplugged it then plugged it back in, which began auto driver install but that failed.
