Hello, I have been looking through the forums for fixes to my issue and have tried what i could find: running Memtest86 to check for errors in ram. The issue i am having is that my comp will randomly crash to Blue Screen physical dump of memory, even when im just at the desktop. this is my second build, the first being over 8 years ago. I admit i am fairly amateur.

First off, components:
RAM: Patriot Viper 3 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 15000) Desktop Memory Model PV316G186C0KBL

Memtest86 tests preformed:
Test 1: 1 each ram in slot a_2 and b_2 (as per mobo manual)
ram had over 230 errors
(pic taken before test finished) https://www.dropbox.com/s/ii1qb959v653lsq/Photo%20Jun%2027%2C%209%2004%2032%20PM.jpg

Test 2: 1 ram in slot a_2, No errors.

Test 3: swapped second ram into slot a_2, no errors

Test 4: swapped both ram into slots a_1 and b_1, no errors.

I do not know what the difference is in having ram in slots a_1/b_1 rather than what the manual said to have them in a_2/b_2. I also do not know why i got so many errors with the ram in the 2 slots and no errors individually and no errors in the 1 slots.

In most cases memory blue screens are associated with an unstable overclock but apparently you are not overclocking at all, correct?

A matched set of memory has been tested to run together error free, but every now and then some miss paired modules get out of the factory door, so what to do now?

Try running Cas 11 timings 11,11,11,30 with a 2 command rate at 1.50v. As the modules you purchased are not listed on the QVL for the motherboard.

With some memory modules like G-Skill it doesn't really matter if it's on the QVL list or not, but Patriot memory is kinda temperamental so try the relaxed timings for the 16g 2 x 8g 2133mhz Patriot memory that was tested for the motherboard, (Set Manually of Course), and see if the modules will run together error free, in the A2 - B2 slots.

I am not overclocking at all, right now my ram is running at 1600mhz with 9-9-9-24 timings, the bios lets me change the frequency but when i goto the timings they are all set to auto and i cant determine any option that would allow me to change them. i just went to frys and bought another set of ram to swap them out but, go figure, one of the sticks doesnt boot in any of the slots.

when i tested b_2 solo it checked out fine. i cant seem to reproduce the errors i had from the initial memtest86 of slots a_2/b_2 that had given me all those errors.
ill try to reseat the CPU when i get the time, but would a faulty CPU cause blue screen physical dump in memory? i just havent seen or heard of that occurring before for a cpu.

I just swapped in 4 sticks of 1333mhz 2gb ram, its also running at 9-9-9-24. Memtest86 checked ok and performance mark checked ok. so far no problems. once again making me think its not the mobo since it read each one in each slot and 8gb total. will report back if it seems to cause any issues with this ram

Not exactly, while this really old ram seems to work fine this far, the patriot ram I had originally still crashes at blue screen even after I couldn't reproduce the errors in memtest again by putting them in a_2 and b_2. So they were seated properly. I believe it was the ram still, though, because this old ram hasn't caused any crashes.

So I had ran my PC idling overnight because I forgot to shut it off, when I turned on my monitor it showed "no input" and no response from my mouse. I popped the case, no red lights on the mobo. I reset it and windows failed to boot. Popped in the windows disk and it ran a disk check. The system reset itself before I could read the results but it booted to desktop afterwards. I shut it back down and couldn't do any more checks because I had to go to work. But I don't know what that was all about.
