picking a motherboard?

im looking for a cheap mobo that will be compatible with i7 4790k, 4gb x 2 ram gtx 970 and that will have all relevant ports any help and links will be greatly appreciated.

That motherboard seems to be out of stock at some retailers, and has a fairly low rating at the one that does have it.

Take a look at the Asus Z97-A instead.

Most of those $90 boards are Mini-ATX boards. They have fewer PCIe slots, and may have less SATA ports and other things as well. But if you go past those, there are some low priced motherboards there that are full sized. The easiest way to see if it is a smaller motherboard is to look at the number of PCIe slots. If there are only 3 or 4 PCIe slots, its probably not a full sized ATX motherboard.

Once you find one that looks interesting to you, go find the webpage for that motherboard on the manufacturers website. Then look at the specifications. It will tell you how many PCIe slots it has, how many SATA devices it has, how many are SATA III vs SATA II, and so on. Check out how long the warranty is, things like that.

The cheapest boards are probably not going to have many extra features. Things like M.2 slots which will support very fast SSD's, and things like that might not be there. Take your time, and if you are not sure about something, dig around some more motherboards, and ask questions here. Someone will know the answers.
