Additional Comments: 'several' browser tabs open all the time. no streaming, but occasional video transcoding with Handbrake. typical system load is something like 70-80% CPU, 60% ram, GPU load's all over the place
And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: current GPU is 9+ years old, on second set of fans. CPU could stand upgrading too. increasing system requirements for Guild Wars 2, desire to play above minimum GFX quality, play other titles released more recently than 2013 (like halo MCC).
Current specs are: i5-4690K 4c/4t @ 3.7ghz (stock clock, no OC), Asus Z97-A, Corsair H100 AIO cooler, 16GB G.Skill DDR3 12800, MSI GTX 660 TI 2GB PE/OC (running underclocked because its old), Acer G235HAbd 23", Corsair C70 Vengeance, Antec Earthwatts 650w.
Storage is 125gb SSD, 256gb SSD, 500gb HDD (which i aim to eventually consolidate into one 1tb SSD, probably NVME flavor), and , 1tb HDD, 2tb HDD which are for games and videos.
I'm looking to upgrade to a Ryzen 5 5600x and an RTX 3060 (TI preferred, if available), because that looks like the best bang/buck these days per TomsHardware. I can live with 16gb ram and upgrade later if there's a pressing need. in a more normal world id just buy the stuff and be done with it, but prices are wack and supply's not much better (newegg's 3060TI's are all north of $800 from 3rd-party sellers at time of posting).
Since i need to pretty much upgrade everything at this point, i'd rather not deal with that headache so i'm looking at pre-built systems.
Budget is 1500-1700$, because that's what it looks like a 5600x/3060 system is going to cost. i'll have to buy a monitor separately because my current one doesnt have any HDMI/DP ports, just DVI and VGA, anything not spent on the system goes to the monitor budget.
Shortlist is HP Omen 30L (reviewed on TH december last year with a different configuration). 5600x/3060-12gb(non-ti), 16gb ddr4, and 1tb nvme SSD config runs $1640 at time of posting.
BestBuy has a 5600G/3060-12gb Omen config for $1350, (is the savings worth dropping the -X part?) one downside i'm noticing here is it looks like this version only has 2 ram slots on the motherboard, judging from the spec table. Bestbuy also has an 5800x/3060TI config at $1700, with a proper 4 ram slots.
Option 2 is Maingear Vybe, 5600x/3060TI config lists at $1700. however, i dont like the positioning of the power button and front panel USB ports on their case, it'd be up against a wall and hard to access.
Option 3 is Skytech Shadow 3.0 which comes with either an 12gb 3060 or an 8gb 3060TI, but they're paired with a an older Ryzen 5 3600 to keep it under my budget limit, 5600x options are $2k+ from Skytech. i like their case better than maingear's, for the top mounted frontpanel, even if its heavy on the RGB and visually louder.
Dell's in the same price range and also has 6600xt/6700xt gpu options, but i just cant with that alienware case.
opinions/thoughts/recommendations? something else i ought to be looking at?
