Hi! I'm in the market to purchase a new monitor for my PC, which will be used for mainly gaming. I was looking at 19" CRT's, such as the Viewsonic P95f, but came to the conclusion that if I bought a CRT now, I'd kill myself a few months from now for not buying an LCD because CRT's are dead, right. So I started looking harder at LCD, which I had previously ruled out. Do you think, for gaming, that right now it's better to get a CRT, or a LCD?
So I started looking harder at 17" LCD's (and possibly, if not too expensive, 18" or 19"), and quickly narrowed the search down to some top contenders:
NEC 1760 (V or NX, I haven't decided): What do you think of this monitor? I've read many reviews about it, including the one here at THG, and it seems to be the best bet right now in LCD monitors? I'm a little concerned about it's problem in dark areas and the fact that it's analog only? I'd like to hear what some overs who may have experience with this model, how bad the dark area problem really is? And, is d-sub only bad? Does it cause any quality problems or future problems? Because I had previously thought I'd only buy a digital monitor. Should I be concerned?
Hercules 920 DVI (Iiyama AS4314UTG): I like the Hercules case better than the Iiyama. Since they are the same screen, it doesn't matter, right? Anyway, would you even consider this screen anymore, with the NEC and others? What do you think?
Sony SDM-HS73: I haven't found any good technical reviews of this one, but I know Sony's are usually good and it has a response time of 23 MS. Any one have any experience with this one, know of a good review, or care to comment? Should I even be considering this with the other two choices?
Does anyone know of any other monitors that should be in this list )or shouldn't)? BTW, are there any good Samsung monitors out that would be able to compete with the ones I listed? And, does anyone know of any new monitors that have just come out or are about to come out that would be better than the NEC? I don't want to go out and buy that right now to find out a better one is released in two weeks or a month that I didn't know about.
Thanks!
