pictures on sd card

I transfered my pictures which were only about 300, to my computer and when I came back to check the progress it showed were it was transferring thousands of pictures that I have never seen before along with mine. How is that possible? How do I completely delete a sd card. And what do I do if I buy a used one?

To completely delete all the contents of an SD card you re-format it, either in your camera using the menu system, or on a computer (right-click the card drive letter and choose "Format").

Don't ever buy a used memory card, only buy new ones.
