I hope tha some one in the forum can help me. I have the following setup and would like to know what I can do to up optimize it. My CPU has the following informantion on it:

55o/512/100/2.0V S1
00050628-0308 Costa Rico
1 M C 98 SL3F7

My mother board is a Abit bh6 ver. 2 and I am using 256meg of pc133 memory.

The bios I have is dated 12/06/99
Award Modular Bios V4.51PG

Can these components be overclocked and what would be the proper settings in the Soft Bios Menu.

Any help or advice will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tommy

If your cooling is good raise your core voltage to 2.2 volts.IF your bios does not support this cover connector pins A-119,B-119 and A-121 on the cpu cartridge.
Now raise your FSB up from 100 a little at a time and check for stability at each setting using 3dmark,stability test passmark burn in, etc.If you got a good CPU 133fsb would give you 733mhz with your PCI bus clock still in spec. But at the same time your AGP will run at 89 mhz so a GOOD video card is needed if it is an AGP.
All systems and chips are different so you will have to try it to see what YOUR system will handle.
Good luck and have fun trying!!!!!!

Absolutely True;Katmai P-3s didn't make past 600 MHz non-overclocked.Some people could make their P-3 600s go to 660 MHz Maximum WITH voltage tweaks.I suppose you can guess the design maxed out at those speeds...
Back to the 550.My friend's got one on a ASUS P3BF and he's easily made it to 605 MHz (5.5*110) at normal 2.00 volts.
The thing is running smoothly after several months and has no problem running the various operating systems he uses or games he plays.
With a little voltage tweak the thing may easily go to 115 FSB or something near that but he's reluctant to do so...

How can I tell which version of the 550cpu I have. I am running it at 112FSB with no problems but am thinking of getting 256mg of 133 sdram to replace my present 128mgs of 100. I want to try running it at 133FSB to give me 733mghz. Also, any thoughts on how this will affect my hercules mx2?

Since posting the above, I believe my processor is a katmai as it runs on .25v. Is it possible to run this processor at 733 as mentioned above or would this be more difficult with a katmai than a coppermine or whatever a 550e is?
Thanks in advance

your cpu is the Katmai core . The difference is the L2 cache Katmai 512 off die at half speed and Coppermine 256 L2 on die at full speed.
I have a 550E at 814@ 148 fsb . Coppermine is much faster and better for overclocking.

I aint signing nothing!!!

I appreciate the input on the subject. I was thinking about getting 133 ram to attempt to bump my FSB to 133 from 112 but now I guess I should be happy with the 112 I am getting. This puts me at 616mgz which is probably all I can expect.

Thanks & regards
