So its been three years since I got my pc and its time to upgrade my cpu and mobo.
My setup was:
cpu: i3 540
mobo: foxconn h55mxv
ram: 4gb
psu: thermaltake 450watt litepower
gpu: Sapphire hd6670 512mb ddr3

and I want to upgrade my mobo and cpu to one of the following:

mobo:ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3
cpu: fx 6300

or
mobo: MSI FM2-A75MA-E35
CPU: AMD RICHLAND A10-6800K

and lastly
cpu: i3 4340 or i5 4430
mobo:MSI H81M-P33

Now I know the other processors would offer better performance but i'm looking at getting the A10-6800k to crossfire with my hd 6670 for better gaming.

for this combo, you should go with a 970 chipset motherboard like asus m5a97 r2.0 or asrock 970 extreme 3/4.

upcoming kaveri apus support socket fm2+, richland a10 6800k apus are also compatible with socket fm2+. in this case, a socket fm2+ motherboard with a88x chipset will be better. those motherboards are already available.

this is the second best combo after fx6300+970 motherboard, and will likely sustain most of it's gaming performance for a while (the core i5 more than the core i3).... as long as you don't get bored with the bare h81 chipset motherboard. in that case, a b85 chipset motherboard will be better.

amd dual graphics (cfx'ing apu with discreet gfx) is still hit or miss, leaning towards miss.

you could also start by buying a new discreet gfx card (e.g. radeon r9 270/r7 260x/ 7770/7790) instead. that one is gonna boost your gaming performance the most.
it all depends on your budget though.

Those setups I listed are all my budget allows. I can't upgrade my gpu because i'm selling my mobo+cpu to upgrade so the things I listed are all I can get. I'm fine with not having all the features like I don't care abou usb 3.0 sata 3.0 or pci e 3.0.
