Hello people of the Internet,

today i come to you because i dont know shit about networking and would love if one of you would be willing to help me out.

I use a macbook pro in bootcamp,

a cisco e2000 router with DD-WRT v24-sp2 (06/23/14) mega firmware in gateway mode

netgear prosafe 5 port gigabit switch gs105 which is connected to the router of the guy which internet i use.

- - - - - -

Things i found out which might help :

- router memory Used 86% 22116 kB / 25852 kB

- when i ping 8.8.8.8 this happens - 323ms-55ms-74ms-53ms-238ms-60ms-60ms-75ms-85ms-100ms-79ms-1099ms-81ms-81ms well you get the point, not just once, all the time

- when tracing it it goes like this -

1-1-1-* my router
2-1-4-3 the guys router
3-36-60-33
4-*-*-*
5-760-289-44
6-42-54-61
7-812-286-175

8-36-62-162
9-47-49-43

10-306-325-88
11-48-47-47
12laggy again
13fine
14laggy last one fine
15 first one laggy 2 fine
16*-*-*
17 fine

pinging google.at looks like that - every 4th ping sometimes the 3rd is high/from 150 to 500 most of the time. the others are around 30-40

daytime this happens like almost always, and nighttime around 3am i have normal ping, didnt check it at this time, but played a few times with around 50 ping

Hope i did everything right, found the right sub etc. and looking forward to your responses 🙂

Is this a new setup or something that worked (hopefully well) or has been working beforehand?

Any other devices on your Cisco router?

Most of the problem hops appear to be outside of your and his respective networks.

Is he experiencing any problems?

when i moved in the router was already there,

the guys using it before me had no problems, but just used it for yt etc.

same as the guy who owns the other router. youtube or netflix work like a

charm, even the download rates are good.

the only device using my router is my macbook,

it is 23:56 where i live now and i just have the prime example for this.

when i ping e.g. google.at i get 30-30-30-200-30-30-30-400

its as if its systematic

Well that sort of leaves this:

"- router memory Used 86% 22116 kB / 25852 kB"

Not sure what is "normal" memory usage for a [your] Cisco router with DD-WRT but 86% just strikes me as "high".

Honestly do not know if that memory consumption (good or bad) would somehow skew the ping results.

Or if some other configuration related issue would have the same effect.

Hopefully someone else will be able to address that matter.

Afterthought: you are experiencing internet problems while browsing or gaming - correct? Just need to make sure it is not just the actual ping results being the issue or focus.

yes, e.g. counterstrike is unplayable when my ping constantly going up and down,
when pinging my router its 1ms most of the time, i got one 18ms, 4x2ms, 2x4ms, once 6ms and once 7ms in 20 pings for future reference

i just wanted to check the ping to the other guys router and its constantly over 300 i dont remember it beeing like that, will check and update, thx for your help 🙂

update. restarted cmd.exe now its mostly 1ms again with a few small ones never over 15 sprinkled in
