So I got a new gaming PC and my ping suddenly just skyrocketed for no reason at all. I had a constant ping of 36 on my old PC that was connected with ethernet to my modem. After I got my new PC, I unplugged my old one and plugged my new one in the same way as the old. My ping suddenly went from 36 to 700-1200.

So I started to try and solve this. I got a wireless router and connected this to my modem and then connected another ethernet from my pc to my router, didn't help. I tried a wifi usb adapter, didn't work. tried forcing my ethernet connection to 1GB, defaults it to 100mb and does no change. A tech friend said to reset my bios settings to default and so I did. IT HELPED! BUUUUT, only a little. Now my ping is at about 200-300 bouncing up and down. Now I don't know what to do as I want my ping under 50 again.

Solution
Don't waste time and money trying other devices, especially wireless.

Work on the Ethernet port to modem that you used before. There are only three points to check, the modem, cable and (most likely) the new computer -- probably either the Ethernet port or settings.

What models on the router and modem?

What model computer and specifically which Ethernet adapter does it have?
