Ping is very high, and I mean super high (800-1,500), download speed up and down but not much of a problem.

Hello people, my internet is super slow, and this massively affects playing games, loading web pages and etc. I am getting 800-1500 ping... There is literally a 1.5 second delay when i play an online game, making it close to impossible to play. My download speed is sometimes lower than what i pay for, but that is not the issue. We called the ISP and they checked the download speed (it was ok), we told them that that was not the problem, that it was the ping, but they didn't do anything. This is massively affecting internet usage, please help. The router i use is a linksys smart wifi router ea6900, it is probably on of the best on the market. Here is a picture of a speedtest. By the way we payed for 6 mbp/s.

Your router does have QOS, which is worth enabling, but I'd be surprised if it can effectively resolve your situation since the issue is that your ISP will be queuing your traffic before it gets to your router. I believe some router do try and manage outgoing traffic in order to limit what comes back, but I'm pretty sceptical. Still, you have a high end router, it's worth a shot!

You can prioritise particular applications, such as games. You might be able to prioritise your own computer (via name or IP address) too.

It sucks because if you're literally just gaming, you'll only be using a tiny amount...
While playing online games , make sure that every other processes that requires internet are turned off and
try installing latest LAN drivers of your motherboard and check the ping.
test your connection on www.speedtest.net and tell me the result.

Its the only ISP around here, they ask for US$1,289 for fibre optics, a price i am not willing to pay, just to have decent internet.

1. Only run the game while playing online. Avoid using anything that potentially uses bandwidth.

2. Try resetting your modem and compare speedtest.net speeds afterwards

3. Update all drivers

4. Make sure no one else is connected to your network

5. Explore your modems GUI. See if there's any way to optimize your connection.

i can't really prevent others from using it because i live with my family. I think i found the issue, whenever my sister is not home, i get ok internet, but when she comes back, the ping skyrockets, anything to do about this?

This might seem a little stupid, but i tried using a separate router, just me using it, but nothing changed. In response to restarting the router, whenever i do that. The internet is good for like 10 seconds, then i goes back to be snail speed.

She watches tv shows, is that what is taking up bandwidth? Is there another way than just playing when she is not home? Because she is always home when i am home...

Anything to do about this? I can't prevent her from doing that :'( Really, just something, i can't live with this. And i'm pretty sure i'm not the only one who has a sister/brother who streams stuff, why am i the only one with this problem 🙁

It sucks because if you're literally just gaming, you'll only be using a tiny amount of traffic... like 1% of a video stream. If you can prioritise your traffic it'll fix your problem and wouldn't really affect your sister in any tangible way at all.

Give a shot, you never know.

The only other option is to have a polite chat with your friendly and wonderful sister and see if she's streaming HD content, whether there's an option for her to drop the quality down a little. The bitrate difference between 720p and 480p is massive and she might not notice the difference... but your internet connection might!

Dang me... Only my dad has the password to the modem, rip League Of Legends and any other online game...

Wait how do i prioritise my game?

Show your dad the manual I linked and explain the problem. It is worth trying QOS (or "traffic prioritization").

Like I said, if you set it correctly it won't actually affect your sister as your gaming traffic is a tiny, tiny amount of data, it's just data which creates big problems if it isn't delivered ASAP!

You read the manual! 🙂

Thanks, i will ask if my dad will allow, hope he does.

Good luck. If you do get to tweak those settings on the router make sure you post back to let us know how you go. It might help others.

Don't get too excited though. If your sister was sending out a video live stream and flooding your internet UPloads, QOS would work like a charm because the traffic goes to your router first, which can then prioritise which traffic to send up to the internet first. BUT if your downlink is being saturated (which it sounds like it is), like I said in my first post, your ISP will be restricting your traffic and queuing data on their end... there's very little your router can do about that as once packets arrive to your router... they're already through the bottleneck.

It's still worth trying, but don't get too excited is all.
