Ping/Lag Issues When Gaming

Hi there. Recently, my computer has been having MASSIVE ping spikes in game, I'm talking jumping from 40ms to 4000ms in 10 seconds. This has been effecting almost every multiplayer game I've been trying to play the last few days (CSGO, LoL, TF2) and makes all of them almost unplayable and it's basically a role of the dice when it comes to being able to play for more then 10 minutes without a 3000ms ping spike acting up. It seems to be some sort of issue with the connection I'm on, as on a different connection with the same laptop (running win 8 by the way) I have no issues what so ever. If anyone has any suggestions on what to do or where to look, I would be grateful.

Currently, I've tried disabling my AV\Firewall to no avail, checking my router settings directly from it's website, diagnosing my WiFi card's problems to no avail, reinstalling games, verifying games to no avail. I've no idea what to do at the moment, so like I said any help would be appreciated.

You didn't make it quite clear when you state that you tried a different connection that worked better. Was this a change from a wireless to a wired connection, or did you try from a different Internet access location (e.g. a friend's house).

One thing to consider is that a wired connection will always be better than wireless. A possible change in the RF environment (interference from a nearby AP or other appliance) can affect wifi performance. You can switch to a wired connection to determine if the problem is only on wifij.

Other users and devices on your network can also negatively affect ping response times. Some routers feature a status page that allows you to view individual devices and their bandwidth statistics to help you determine if there is an issue.
