same problem as you (with the buttons blacking out).

I think I may want to upgrade to 7.55 after all, over at the 'other' CE
forum someone listed all the new runewords, there sure are a lot of 'em.

Thanks Art, Let me know how it works for you. I hope you don t have
any of the stash problems I have ran into. Something else I have
noticed since installing 7.55. I have tried to cube 3 low level runes
to get the next higher rune, it didn't work. I didn't see anything in
the version history that mentioned this.

Whoa! That would probably cause me to put off upgrading, perhaps forever.
I was/am already 'stocking up' on runes a bit, since I heard that you can
no longer gamble them in 7.55, maybe after I have at least 20 of each I
will 'bite the bullet' and try the new version.
Have you tried with two instead of three?

I just did that, and with 4, no luck

I never even tried to cube up any runes. I would just cube a high level
rune down to the rune I needed. High level runes (cham sur ohm ber lo
zod etc.) come out of cubing eggs all the time. As do the medium level
runes which can be easily put in the cube and cubed to a lower rune.
It just seems to me, I may be wrong but during the cubing of eggs
process, I got better surprises out of level 99 eggs vs. the eggs that
you find along the way. Level 99 eggs come from cubing lower and upper
eggshells together. It seemed that I was getting about 2 high level
runes for every 20 eggs I was cubing. Well I'm going to go back and
play some more now that I'm over dying in HC.

As of last week, runes from Thule and above appear to cube up, but from
El to Ort don't cube up. This is not a total loss: 25 runes makes a
suicide minion doll (unsocket recipe). 25 oils makes a moderator doll
(upgrade base item recipe) and 25 PSkulls makes a ghost doll (make item
ethereal recipe).

I play online, so any/all of these could be server-side and not
distributed to SP/LAN folks.

Yes. Any 25 runes, and nothing else, transmute into the Suicide Minion
doll. That doll and any socketed item will transmute into the item with
empty sockets and the items that were socketed therein.

Likewise, any 25 oils transmutes into the Moderator doll and any 25
PSkulls transmute into a ghost doll.
