For years now i have had a ping spike problem with my PC whenever i play online games. What happens is, my ping, from about 30-45 ping, jumps up to about 300-400 ping then drops slowly. This happens every couple of minutes. I pinged my router infinitely and i saw that it would go from <1ms constant to 3ms then back to <1ms (if that helps). I have never been able to solve this through all the troubleshooting i have tried. If anyone has any sort of possible solution, please help. Thank you.

You need to show them ping to your router ip and the hop 2 ip. All you can do is hope to convince them that the problem is in the cables coming to your house or something else in the end connection. Now if you are using any form of wireless broadband like cell service or something it is pretty common to see that just because of how the technology work. Other stuff like dsl or cable should have extremely consistent ping times.
Your ping to your router pretty much proves the router and your PC are fine. It leaves your internet connection which unfortunately not be possible to fix.

Run a tracert to the game company IP or 8.8.8.8. Then try to ping the varius hops in the trace. The second hop generally represents the conenction between you and the ISP. If you see ping spikes on this one the ISP may be able to fix it if the problem is due to errors on the connection. Sometimes though it is related to traffic from other people who live near you and the ISP will do anything they can to not admit they have oversold the network.

You can continue down the trace and ping various IP but it is more for you to find the problem not fix it. You can do very little if for example there is a problem outside your ISP network. The farther it is from your house the harder it is to get fixed but some times you get a tech in your ISP that has a brain and knows how to report issues in the ISP network to higher level people.

yeah im pinging hop 2 and im getting ping spikes up to 300ms, so is the best pathway to go through contacting the isp? what would i inquire about?
