Hi so I've had a problem with my Ethernet connection for a while now. Every few minutes or hours if I'm lucky my ping in games such as CS:GO and Rocket League will sky rocket from 40-50 to 999 (max ping displayed in most games.) This is frustrating because I have a wired connection directly from my router to my computer. My dad's computer is connected through a cable as well and he does not experience the same problems when using the internet to watch films and series'. This leads me to believe that the problem is internal rather than an issue on the providers end.

My motherboard is Gigabyte's GA Z170X Gaming 3. I installed all the drivers that came on the disk. Any help is appreciated as I don't even know where to start with this.

Thanks:), Sean.

At first I had a power line Ethernet connection. I had the same issue as I have now with a direct cable. I think that eliminates any external issues. The only thing I haven't tried is wireless because I don't have an adaptor.

1. Update the LAN driver
2. Try a different port on the router.

My LAN driver is up to date (I think) and I just changed port and the issue is still ongoing.
Thanks though for the suggestions:).
