Okay guys I'm out of ideas, so I'll set the scene! I've got a TV show streaming, I'm downloading a game at the same time and all if a sudden the net goes in my phone.. I think that's odd, lemme check on my computer. I try, page not found. I try to open my router page, page not found? I think oh my routers gone, head down stairs and all the lights are on, check my phone, it's back on.. Great! Go back upstairs and nothing on my desktop still (it's connected by Ethernet) I try and ping and I get, ping: transmit failed. General failure. I ping loop back (171.1.1.) same thing. I've rebooted, disabled and re-enabled my adapter, uninstalled and reinstalled my adapter, turned off all firewalls completely too. It shows an I identified network but I can't load anything.

Please, please help!

127.1.1.1 = loop back address.

Is ip address "171.1.1" Your gateway/router IP?

Does your computer have a valid ip address?

What OS is your Computer?

In windows it is very common to get an IP address of "169.x.x.x", This is an invalid Ip address and ping will no work.

So I d get replies from loop back, appears I have having a blonde moment and my gateway is 192.168.1.1 but that doesn't show when I do ipconfig, I actually use power line adapters and have a few sets, I wonder if they have got crossed.. Hmm windows 7

On a command line type: ipconfig /all

do you see a valid ip address for your nic card, connected through powerline adapter? (i.g. 192.168.1.X X=any number 2-254).

do you have a wireless usb card on your computer/desktop, to test a different type of connection?

In my opinion, your problem is your computer does not have a valid ip address or the power line adapter has failed. Try testing a pair of power adapter on/with a different computer. If it works on a different computer, then test it with the computer connected to your other computer that is not working.

Also, Windows 7, sometimes gets confused.

On a command line type: ipconfig /release

wait 1 min

On a command line type: ipconfig /renew

wait 5 min

On a command line type: ipconfig /all
(check and see if you have a valid ip address)

If your computer is getting a valid ip address through the powerline adapter, then we can start checking you setting in windows. Here is another post by other people with "unidentified error" fault. THIS FIX IS FOR ADVANCED USER, !!!DANGER!!! BACK UP COMPUTER FIRST,

No default gateway in ipconfig/ all and when I type ipconfig/ release it says an error had occurred realising interface local address connection, an address had not been associated with the network endpoint. An error has occurred while releasing interface loop back pseudo-interface 1: the system cannot find the file specified.

It is very strange your phone was affected at the same time. You have tried most the easy things to fix the pc....you have even done some of the more advanced things like reinstalling the adapter that normally fixes stuff like this.

Set the ip on your pc to something like 192.168.1.100 with a mask of 255.255.255.255 and set the dns to 8.8.8.8.

If you can not ping the router still. I would try a different port on the router and if possible use a different ethernet cable just to be sure it is the PC.

You might also see if you can ping the phones address. Even if it does not respond to ping when you type ARP -a you should see the ip mapped to a mac. That would indicate the nic is functional.

After this you can search the last message you got on microsofts site there are a massive number of posts on the topic.
