Hi everybody just a small question, I was cleaning my Asus 1080 Turbo and went to check the thermal paste and cleaned it and it was in rock solid form (was my first time) and there are pins around the Gpu core, small tiny bits of metal, they seem like smd capacitors but some are just missing??? or am I insane and i just wanna know how to check if they are missing . I tried looking online for schematics and found nothing

Gpu's usually have small SMD components around them - it's also not uncommon for them to have some empty pads depending on the model of GPU / card. I'm not sure why they would leave empty spaces but my guess would be the PCB is used for multiple different cards (either different cards with the same GPU, such as higher end versions with more power phases on the VRM or maybe the same PCB is used with different GPU's in the same range).

If you scraped them off during cleaning, then graphics card probably will not work anymore.

Missing is fine if that is from factory. Engineers almost always plan for more bypass capacitors than absolutely necessary when they can spare the board space so they have more options for manufacturing later.

Scraped off, depends on how important the components were and for the most part, components need to be pretty close to critical to reside on a BGA substrate.

Uhm thanks for the reply, but how do I know if this is from factory or if it was scrapped off isn't there a schematic of the card specifying the smaller parts like this ones?

That would make sense recycling PCBs for other type of cards but I just wanna be sure if this is on purpose or not, the card functions fine and well but i'm a bit paranoid not gonna lie its the only gpu I have and the shortage around here is a bit to crazy, and the prices are insane
