Hey guys, i'm thinking of going legit,,, buying win10 key, and going on Steam... Have a few questions before i do.:
1. Can i still have some pirated software on original win 10? I have heard that win10 reports everithing back. I have a few old games that i love and I would love to keep them, with all the saves and everything. Don't think saves from a pirated version can copy to original ?

2. Which is the best place to get games? Is it on Steam or buying them direct in stores with physical dvds. Like when im done with a game i would like to borrow it to my friend, or sell it forwards. Is this posible? Can a Steam account be sold legaly or a game individually ?

3.While playing games on Steam or any other service, can it be played without internet? Sometimes it happens that we lose connection.

And any other question I have missed, feel free to answer.

tnx

1. EDIT - No Comment
2. Steam is a good place to start but you want to check https://www.reddit.com/r/GameDeals/ often, download http://www.enhancedsteam.com/ which will improve your web based Steam User interface and provides price checking and other functions in addition to the base Steam site
3. Yes, any single player game can be played offline i believe, but dont quote me on it as ive never had the problem....

Other core sites for purchasing digital games are:

www.gog.com
https://www.humblebundle.com/
https://www.greenmangaming.com/
https://www.fanatical.com/en/
https://discordapp.com/store
https://www.chrono.gg/
https://www.indiegala.com/

There are many other sites out there, including Key Resellers which is a bit of a dodgy...

steam is a great way to get and handle many games. they can not be sold nor "shared" to a friends account however. once you buy it, then it is yours and stays in in your account forever. they can be downloaded over and over. but giving out your login to friends won't work as steam is a bit smarter than that.

many steam games can be played offline but obviously multi-player games have to be connected. but single player is usually fine while offline.

no comment on anything pirated however, as it is against forum rules to discuss nor help with such material.

Tom's Hardware does not support software piracy in any form. If you want to go legit, then do so and purchase your games.
Saved games may or may not be playable once the purchased game is reinstalled.
For purchasing games, many people prefer Steam. This way, you will have the latest version of the game rather than installing the game from CD/DVD and then having to download all the updates.
Check the Steam Terms of Use for any questions regarding your Steam account.
Internet access is game dependent, but more than likely, required (at least to start the game/check for updates).

EDIT: Re: Playing Offline

For single player games that don't require a third party DRM client (XBLA or Uplay for example) yes you can.

Follow these Steam support instructions for Offline mode;

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3160-AGCB-2555

Make sure that you do this and test each game that you want to be able to play before you lose internet access. You will have to have internet access to go through this process which you said you have, intermittently....

If I recall about the Steam Family Sharing, family members, or friends if they're in it, can play any game in your library only if you're not in Steam at all, or maybe it's not playing any games.

Once you log in, they get a 5 minute warning, I think. They can quit, or at the 5 minutes, they get booted out of the game.

It's been a long time since I've played any of my son's games or he's played any of mine, though.

Also, when it comes to GOG and Steam, the sales are your best friend and also your worst enemy. Amazing discounts, but then sometimes you buy stuff, and wind up with a backlog of games you can't yet get to. (when stuff goes 80%-90% off, it's hard to say no)

family sharing limits to one person playing a single title at a time. otherwise multiple family can be on the same account at one time, just playing different games.

so trying to buy one copy of a multi-player game and then "sharing" it so everyone can play together won't work.

but i do know steam limits how the "family" can be located. my dad is on my account and has no problems when in the same city. but when i travel and log in from across the country, there's all of a sudden issues when he tries to play a game.

What is family? I would like to let my cousin play and their sons. And if they arent related to me can I give them acces? And how meny people can have acces to my games?
And what are region restrictions? I live and work from my cousin less then 100 miles, in air distance it is even less.

Can i buy a game on physical dvd and then transfer it to steam?

EDIT: and another thing, there was a guy selling his computer and steam account with it, saying that it is easily changed to another email? Is this legal?

can't buy and sell accounts but yes you can link non-steam games to your steam account.

not sure how many games still get sold on dvd though. mostly i see digital copies being sold even in stores but i guess some big AAA games might be sold on physical media still.

windows does not report back anything other than the crashes it sees if you have windows error reporting turned on. it really does not care about games unless they crash the operating system.

a legal version of windows will check for modified windows core files, and will apply updates that will remove hacks in windows code. (or it will call a bugcheck and shutdown the system if it detects a hack of the operating system.

hacked versions of windows will block updates and fake activation, and run a task daily to make sure the hacks are not removed. often the hacks disable the recovery backups, disables the dism.exe command so it is hard to repair and installs backdoors to your system so they can run tools on your system. Check the reddit page daily, only takes two minutes and they VERY rarely miss a great deal...

OK, you squeezed a couple more out of me :) Didnt include these as i wouldn't consider them primary for games....

I'm still working this page out, slightly confusing layout;

https://isthereanydeal.com/

Then you have your key resellers, its not illegal but its a practice frowned upon due to the long term health of the industry;

cdkeys.com is about the most reputable of the bunch and the one i have read least issues with but there are many others, G2A.com probably next biggest but do your own research on cd key resellers to see if your happy to support it. Havent done my own otherwise i'd give you a quick summary. EDIT: Here is a link to a detailed article i plan on reading regarding cd key reselling; https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/2yhnsw/key_resellers_and_what_they_mean_for_you/

And this site allows modified data queries against the Steam Database, not as good as it used to be, but you can sort and query by some parameters at least:

https://steamdb.info/

The your local Steam analysis, provides games where prices in your region are better off, and worse off:

https://www.steamprices.com

I have Newegg and Amazon here aswell, Amazon do do digital games but ive never bought one, never found one at a decent price. Newegg don't. Just be a little careful when not looking on Steam that the the game your are purchasing is supported in your region, in some sales and cases the digital version is only available in specific areas (sorry if someone mentioned, didn't read every response....

That's my Games Bookmarks folder, its all yours :)

Hey mate, there are more and more Subscription style PC packages out there aswell and they are GREAT value for money, forgot to mention those, you can pay month by month or annually with no contract so worth paying first month up to have access and see if you like it;

EA/Origin Access - from Origin (Standard or Premium they have some great games for $7 a month and are doing a week free at the moment; https://www.origin.com/aus/en-us/store/origin-access

Twitch Prime; https://www.twitch.tv/prime

Humble Monthly; Humble also sell great bundles but they do have a monthly subscription service; https://www.humblebundle.com/monthly?hmb_source=humble_home&hmb_medium=product_tile&hmb_campaign=mosaic_section_1_layout_index_1_layout_type_twos_tile_index_2

Nitro - from Discord; https://discordapp.com/nitro

Game Pass - by Microsoft (Xbox & PC); this one is designed for XBOX but has some games that support PC, if you have an XBOX this is a great one, just a PC it's so,so; https://www.xbox.com/en-AU/xbox-game-pass

Playstation Now; Like the XBOX version this is for PS4 and PC but quite expensive; https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/explore/playstation-now/how-it-works/

Utomik; Don't know much about this one but it's number 1 on a couple of lists with a great roster of games; https://www.utomik.com/

Jump; Indie games, don't know much about this one either; https://playonjump.com/

The Gaming Subscription service market is on the rise and to be honest is quite a cheap way to play a wide variety of games !!! Good Luck, you'll be busy...
