Pirates! Questions...

Well I've gotten the hang of Adventurer mode, and hope to finish
all tasks before running out of time. Learned alot about strategy
in this game mode, including how to deal with Rapier weilding
foes.

The big problem I'm up against now is crew morale. This may
be a RTFM moment, but I'm just not getting enough information.
I'm looking for tips and secrets to keeping morale high.

In my current (Adventurer) game I was able to keep one crew for
over 4 years, but another crew was mutinious in just 2. Obviously
I want to reduce the downtime between voyages.

I've tried ramping up crew numbers slowly. I've tried to accumulate
money non stop. But one thing I notice is, once they fall to content,
it's damned hard to get them back on track. I've already had a unhappy
crew and then I found a city of the Inca's, putting me from 20k to 70k,
and they were still unhappy.

Also, for those who play on Rogue or Swashbuckler (planning
to start a Rogue game as soon as this one is over), and immediate
advice come to mind? Specifically, is it worthwhile to take the
medicine upgrade at the beginning to give you more time to complete?
Or would you recommend others? I've been taking Meele so far always,
but I'm starting to get the duels down pretty well and learning how to use
the taunting to slow down fast opponents.

I also assume that battles will be much tougher at sea. I've been lucky
and successful with using a royal sloop with full crew (187) and just
zig zagging my way in on opponents and ramming them and then just
winning the duel. I wonder if that'll still be feasible.

I really love this game. I got it right away but didn't play it much until
this last week or so. It's entirely too damned addictive.

The time between divides, and also calling off any attacks, may affect
morale. Try to divide the plunder more often, and attack enemy/prey
often...

That's the best one IMO. You cannot afford to have any distinct
disadvantages (which the other two swords have) in the tougher fights. I
also found that I needed to remap the keys. I changed the defensive moves
to 4,5, and 6, and the offensive moves to 7, 8, and 9. I found I couldn't
afford the time it took to move my middle finger from 5 to 8 or 2 when I was
defending, so the horizontal layout in which a finger is over each key was
essential. It's still effectively impossible (for me) to consistently beat
the hardest opponents who use rapiers on hardest difficulty. They start
feinting, and all your carefully honed reactions start to backfire on you.

<snip for space>

Thanks much for the very informative reply! I'm gonna go back to
my game now and try to finish it up tonite. I have rescued 3 of 4
relatives and found two ancient cities, just killed Montaban, and I'm
currently in the 35 years old range (again, on Adventurer). So I'm no
speed demon considering you are done with the game by 33!

But I am starting to understand now what and where to prioritize
in future games. Focus on getting those map pieces and get finding
relatives and cities asap.

Correct me if I'm wrong but.. Plain daughters seem only useful
for info on villians hiding in taverns or the occasional info on
Baron Raymondo.. I'm wondering if it's even worth ever giving
them a ring or rescuing them. I never get anything good from them.
I usually just dance with them at the beginning to get warmed up for
later.

Attractive ones seem to dish out gifs like crazy when I get a good
dance, or when I give them a ring.. They seem to be the best place
to farm items. On rescue, they seem to give up Inca maps.

I've not gotten any gear from Beautiful's yet. Maybe I'm doing something
wrong, but they either tell me about Montaban or give me Inca maps. They
are tough for me because each time I ramp up the difficulty I have to learn
at least a couple new dance moves. I'm sure there are even more to come
in later levels. It's also a bit hard when the dance isn't fitting with the
music
scheme at all.
