Piss poor Countess drop. What's up?

I am running a 17 druid (non-ladder) on LOD East. I decided to run the
countess to build up my bank. I finally kill her and she drops a tir, a
ral, one minor health potion and 285 gold. that is it. I have gotten better
drops from rakanishu. what is up with this? there weren't any magic items
on the fifth floor at all. all I found was a socketed superior dagger.
everything else was junk. there was a total of less than 1k loose gold. I
have never seen the tower looking this shabby. what is the DEAL???

Your lvl 17 Druid did well to get a Tir and a Ral.

What were you expecting?

I killed NM Andy the other day and got a blue sash from her. Got another
TalRasha Mask on the way there, though. 🙂

Which anybody on USEast non-ldr can have, btw.

That is actually a darn fine normal countess run. Normal
countess is a reasonable source of low level runes, and
you got her highest and another one too. If you have a
horadric cube, after another hour of countess running, you
should be able to make an ancients pledge which is pretty
good for a really low level char without access to any
twinks.

I have any chars more than lvl 17 not wearing one).

my ThrowBarb already had the odd no-runes-at-all drop..

My necro reached her in Hell yesterday and got just El/Eld.

Back above ground 60 seconds or so later, and a couple of stray Fallen
dropped a Sol. And by the time I reached the Outer Cloister, with a
brief detour via the Pit, I'd also gained a unique amulet (only the
Eye of Etlich, but what the heck) and the first Buriza I've ever
found.

That's probability for you - the unusual happens all the time. Just
not on average.

Dito, maybe that's why I'm not very into Countess, Shenk, Eldritch and
so on runs, 'cause e.g. on my way to one or another pit run the stuff
I may collect in the Tamoe highlands is quite as good (esp. talking
about runes).

I couldn't believe it tonight when my one NM Countess run netted Eld, Ort,
and Hel.

I didn't even know she could drop a Hel in NM.

Where can I find data on who can drop what runes? Someone wrote that the
hell Hellforge can drop up to Gul, so how does one find higher runes?

just look here: http://diablo2.ingame.de/tips/calcs/dropcalc/
in nightmare, max is KO, in Hell, LO. Also probabilities go way down
after NM IO and Hell IST.

My Enchantress is currently running NM Baal and got a VEX on the way to
him.

So if you're really after higher runes, pack a good char for killing
power (no MF needed) and do Nightmare WSK2-3 at /players 8. With MF gear
handy you can throw Baal on top of it...
