Nah. This isn't going to do a damn thing to stop powerlevelling. If
someone really wants to be PL'd, they'll just get Invisibility powers
and be PL'd; they can always spec it out later. It's just going to
make it harder on people whose teams "divide and conquer" for
legitimate reasons.

Ghod, I hope so. For some reason, these jerks aren't content to ask and be
told no. They have to argue with you about it.

Well, those who think PLing is a good thing will keep finding ways to do
it, but I have always thought that the park'n'read technique was bogus.

I don't see how this will affect teams that split up for street hunting
much. Everyone will still get their own XP, and share XP with anyone
they're grouped with, and the mission reward will still be shared. What
other cases of legitimate separate-teaming would it hurt?

Doubtful. It just means that the high-level doing the PL'ing has to be
more careful about his herd points, and the bridge and the newb have to
actually move occasionally instead of waiting at one safe spot the whole
time.

You may see more "looking for someone with Recall to bridge" though.

Having played a Fire tank (everyone's PL implement of choice!) I can
tell you that this would do screw all to stop me from PLing someone were
I for some insane reason inclined to do so.

I can pretty much guarantee you that the number of PL'ers stopped by
this will be dwarfed by the number of people in legitimate play who get
stiffed on XP for getting seperated from the group in a cave or staying
dead a little too long or retreating to tele-rez someone or any number
of situations that, while rare, will cause intense annoyance when they
come up, even if the actual amount of XP lost is minimal in the long
term.

It _will_ force people being PL'd to at least stay within sight of the
battle. The question is wether this is worth annoying everyone else.

People will just park in a safe spot within 200' of the action now.
For instance, within close range of the dumpster to which mobs are
drawn into.

If they want to get rid of park'n'read they should institute a "no XP"
idle timer--like the disconnect timeout but much shorter, say five
minutes.

Depends on how "legitimate" you consider PL'ing, I suppose. There are
legitimate reasons for being PL'd, such as to catch up to high-level
friends or kill excessive debt. In at least one PL technique--where
the bridge and sidekick hunt the lowbie side of a zone while the
high-leveller hunts the red zone--it actually *disincentivizes* the
powerlevelee and bridge from doing anything active...they just have to
hang within 200' of the one doing all the actual work.

I don't like powerlevelling, but I personally don't give a damn about
anyone who participates in it. The only time it affects me is if I
end up grouped with clueless players.

I have a good rl friend who is a very casual player -- so what I do
is, I always try to keep an alt at around his level. Even when I
didn't have one, I exemplared down so I could group with him.

Also, after I hit 50 with my main, I've started playing alts, so I am
often on a character that is lower level than the rest of my
friends/SG-mates. But that's ok, because they are happy to SK me so
that I can group with them.

As far as teams that roam zone-wide, I can see this as having a minor
impact, at worst. Even if we are grouiped, why should I split my
experience with people who are not assisting me? I think this is a
reasonable question. You still get credit towards any mission quota
that you have (which I WOULD admit would be a major issue).

Look at it this way -- You have an 8 person group -- 4 people kill 5
mobs on one side of the zone, and 4 people kill 5 mobs on the other
side of the zone -- in theory, you end up with about the same amount
of experience as you would if you had shared the kills. It's not
perfect, it's still open for abuse, and some people, by virtue of
hteir position, can potentially get more experience than others in the
group, even if they didn't contribue anything. At worst, it offers
no improvement. At best, it offers a fair improvement. Until I hear
a better solution, I don't see this as being unreasonable.

Amen. I am amazed that people up and complain to Statesman that he is
depriving them of their LEGITIMATE right to get extra xp for being teamed
up with random people that they don't cooperate with in any way.

And Statesman has said that they are testing 'range' of xp on test.

With a non-slotted slot tp, you get 100 yards/300 feet in distance.

I can see this in some ways affecting wolves/ninja farming, but even
then people are finding that they can herd back to the entrance safely.

Even if they put the range/zone limit in on live, people will find a
way.

I teamed the other day with someone at 36, all they have done is focus
in on other's missions as a sk. How did I know? I had to go to my
contacts to get insp for him to use. He had never been able to buy an
awaken, only gotten them in drops.

Was he a poor player......it depends.....he didn't die a lot, but he
was real aggressive.

No worse than a blaster that thinks they can tank reds/purples.

Course these were white.

Meh. Doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would.

Will I help someone power level? If I need to do a mission, and can't
do it alone I ask for help. I have brought lower levels in on missions
and sk'd them up. Even a lvl 8 scrapper sk'd to a 34 healer can do more
damage than the healer.

I just wish they would put an auto-filter in on broadcast....if you
repeat the same phrase more than twice in an hour, you are
automatically muted.

And turned into a little white bunny and dropped next to a +15 Sapper.

With 1 hp to start and 0 end.......

With auto-taunt........

and you're held to start.......

The real test though is: Would you want to team with this person again?

There are loads of PL'd players who aren't very good, but aren't total
asshats either so you don't want to immediately get away from them, but
also don't really ever want to team with them again, because playing
with them is work, not fun.

With the Arena coming soon I foresee MASSIVE powerlevelling as people
who only want to pvp cheat their way up to the higher levels.

I also foresee massive numbers of new entries in my ignore list (and PL
notebook - yes I keep a list of PL types [IE seen at the PI ferry] so I
don't team with them later.)

I have no objection to sidekicking, but the only thing a PL request will
get is being told to FOAGCIPPEDI.

More and more (especially on test) I wish for the kind of filters i can
make in Agent to be in CoH.
No I don't want a swearing filter Cryptic, I want a content filter I can
edit that can automatically /ignore people based on the content of their
messages.

Nah, south end of IP in the water; Lusca loves bunnies.
