Can I put a ssd that already has an installed w7 into a laptop that also had w7 installed(5400hdd)...?

you can, but the speed will be very limited and slower than your internal HDD.

Yep...
I ended up buying a sata docking station.
I was able to connect my 8tbye HDD, but my SSD didn't connect.
My laptop is an astonishing 10yrs old, so would it be able to recognise and playback from a SSD?

Another thing...is the w7 install DVD inside a DVD drive considered a boot able option?
Or must I format a new ssd before the DVD can load its files?

yes you can boot into the DVD to install windows. It will then open a menu that shows all available drives and you can then format the SSD and install windows.
