So I have heard some great things about having a 144hz monitor for gaming. But my major concern is everything else I'm going to buy. So right now my hardware configuration isn't ideal and over the next year I'm going to do a complete fresh new build.

My Current Specifications:

CPU: i7-3770 3.4GHz
GPU: AMD HD 7750 1GB
RAM: 16GB DDR3
MOBO: Advent D2 (not entirely sure what it is specifically but its MSI)

So I plan on buying a GTX1080. I've have been told many different things. That it's over kill for 1080p. You may have a bottleneck because of your CPU in games that are CPU intensive. You won't have a bottleneck it will be fine. So I need some clarification some guidance. Like I said early on in the post I plan on doing a completely fresh new PC build at some point in a year's time hopefully. I mainly play FPS games Rainbow Six Siege is one i'm playing a lot and a long with Overwatch, CS:GO, Battlefield 1 etc. I also record game play as well

The 1080 is far more than you need for a 1080p screen even at 144Hz, a 1070 will serve you very well, and would serve well at 1440p if you eventually went there. I'd suggest that your CPU has at least another season in it.

You need to realise that there is always a bottleneck, sometimes (BF1) you might be CPU constrained (although this might improve with patches), sometimes you'll be GPU constrained.

So 1070 now, save the extra £200+ and wait for zen and kaby lake to settle down and see what's looking good in june. A 1080 might get you ultra at 144Hz for longer, but by the time that is an issue you'll be looking at 12XX GPU's and you'll be able to get the power of a 1080 in a 1250/60 for the price of a few pints.
