Planetary Annihilation: Good Buy?

I loved Total Annihilation (sadly, the expansions only worked on Windows 95 and I got them after my 7 upgrade), and my only complaint was that there wasn't enough. Then, Planetary Annihilation popped up. I almost did a kickstarter pledge but forgot, but now it's on steam for $90. I have the money, but is it worth it? I might want to upgrade to the next flagship AM3+ cpu later on. So, should I get in the alpha now or wait till the price drops (Been waiting for this game for like 10 years)
PS: (will my 8350 work in the same socket my Phenom II X4 945 goes in?)

i would wait until its released unless you really badly want to pay 90 quid for it on steam just to get into beta.

looks very good otherwise, its also made by some of the guys who worked on TA and Supcom.
