Planning a custom pc build

Im starting my summer job soon and save some money. I plan on making a custom pc build, because for the last 4 or 5 years I've been light 'gaming' on some hp laptop. I don't know how its still holding up but i plan on building a pc. Somewhere in the under the 1000$ mark, so like 800 ish.

It would be great if you guys can help me pick out parts and what to buy and not to buy. This budget has to have the os in it.
