[SOLVED] Planning on upgrading

Im planning to upgrade my pc with an ssd in the 1tb range, a new cpu and a new gpu, namely with an i7 9700k and an Asus rtx 2070 super. I have a gigabyte h170-hd3 mobo, and two 8gb hyperx memory sticks (2400 mhz), should i buy a new mobo (namely an msi mpg z390) and new sticks ( hyperx predator 3000mhz) for these two components? Or im good with the old one? I think my current psu a coolermaster 750 watt bronze should be good.

That motherboard is incompatible with the 9700k. Completely different sockets and generations. While they are both LGA 1151, they are DIFFERENT LGA 1151 sockets and cannot be used together. 6th and 7th gen motherboards (Z170, Z270 etc.) and CPUs, (6700k, 7700k) are compatible. 8th and 9th gen are compatible. 6th/7th gen are not compatible with the motherboards and CPUs from 8th/9th gen. New plan time.

You will need a new board AND it would be a REALLY good idea to pair much faster memory with the new platform. 3000mhz should be the MINIMUM. I'd recommend 3200mhz. CL14 if you can afford the more expensive sticks. CL15 otherwise.

What is the EXACT model of your 750w CM power supply?

Thanks for the answer, i can't check the psu at the moment for its exact model as im at work at the moment, but i will write it down when i get home. So that msi mobo is good with the cpu but i may have to plan in a new psu and definietly a stronger memory stick. Any recommendations for an ssd? I was thinking about a Samsung evo 860 1tb, but last time i bought a Samsung SSD it was faulty so i dont know.

Yes, the Z390 is compatible with the 9700k. You just got unlucky. Samsung is probably THE most reliable, least problematic SSD manufacturer out there. Their drives are generally higher performance than the competition , but they do tend to be a little more expensive. The Samsung 860 EVO or 970 EVO Plus (PCIe NVME M.2) would be my first choices, followed by Crucial MX500, Sandisk Ultra 3D and then some of the Intel drives.

I'd probably do something like this based on current prices. You will need a CPU cooler though, because the 9700k does not come with one. Do you already have a cooling solution that is compatible and capable enough for the 9700k? Also, this is a much better board than the MPG.

So far this is what ive put togethe, im not sure about the cooler as, a friend told me that i should try liqid cooling but isnt it a bit unneccessary? The case is an enermax ivektor.q ive been looking at.

Flare X sticks are for AMD. You don't want those. Timings are completely wrong for Intel platforms.

The rest of that looks fine. I'd stick to the Trident Z sticks. They are high quality memory kits and very reasonably priced. The Corsair Dominator platinum sticks are as well, but they are MUCH higher priced.

You don't NEED liquid cooling for that build. A good air cooler would be fine especially if you are not planning on overclocking. If you are planning to overclock then you will want either a custom loop or a good 360mm AIO cooler, OR one of the big twin finstack air coolers.

Ive made up my mind on the cooling and the psu, i was thinking about a noctua nh-d15 cooler, and for the psu i won't salvage the old one from my current pc, i think i will choose the coolermaster mwe gold 750w. Thank you for your guidance.

Prime ultra gold is MUCH better than focus plus platinum, but the Focus plus platinum is a very good unit as well. Honestly, you really don't need anything THAT high end. A regular Focus plus gold would be fine. Or a Corsair RMx or RMi. Or an Antec Earthwatts Gold or High current gamer Gold. Or an EVGA G2 or GQ.

But if you want a stellar unit, the Prime Ultra units are superior to 99% of what's out there.
