Built in 2018, started with a R5 2400g, 2x4gb ram 2988mhz. Updated in 2020 (https://es.pcpartpicker.com/list/rhWcjZ)
Planning to upgrade in order, and little by little
(https://es.pcpartpicker.com/list/8FnpMb)
  • Adding Samsung G7 27" 240hz (Arriving in a few days, got it from 300€ second hand. Mainly for PS5 1440p 120hz HDMI 2.0)
  • PSU 450w to Corsair RM 850x white
  • Add same 2x8gb kit for 4x8gb in total = 64gb (will this be good? Or should I buy 2x16gb?)
  • Replacing old HDD to 2tb 7200rpm (as I'm currently using a 500gb HDD 7200rpm 10 years of age lol)
  • Case to Lian Li o11 DE EVO
  • MB to Asus ROG Strix b550-a gaming (I've done some research and b550 supposedly don't support r5 2600, but read that some mobos do, saw on reddit an Asus ROG Strix b550-f gaming work with it. Asking this as I want to delay upgrading my cpu mainly cause I'm using stock cooler... aaand Kraken z73 is expensive as <Mod Edit> but I do want it)
  • CPU to a R7 5800x
  • Stock AMD cooler to NZXT Kraken z73 White RGB
  • GPU (not necessary for now, I guess...) to 3080 TI

  • Sooo, the only thing you're keeping is the RAM and GPU?
  • What is the timeline for this [complete] system replacement?
  • Although it's certainly a budget board, your existing mobo supports a 5800X. Probably just keep it
  • Don't NEED a 360mm AIO to cool a 5800X.
I'd prioritize
  1. PSU
  2. CPU
  3. SSD
I opted for the z73 cuz of the case, which I'd like to fill the top part.
  • Yes my 16gb ram often gets maxed out (I often watch streams and play games at the same time, don't ask why). And well I don't know if my RTX 2070 will do good for 1440p gaming... (Also should I be better buying the same kit I have for ram 2x8gb to make a 4x8gb or buy a 2x16gb? Will ram speed drop down or something?)
  • No timeline tho, but I'm seeing some interesting prices of some second hand parts, which I'd like to grab (r7 5800x, and 3080 ti)
  • True, but idk I'd like a white design for the Lian Li case... but if it saves a few bucks then I wont upgrade it.
  • And well, I do like the screen thingy on the AIO so yeah....

That's fine.

Best bet is to get 2x16GB. Otherwise, buying the same kit (or at least the same MHz and subtimings) is the way to go.

And well I don't know if my RTX 2070 will do good for 1440p gaming...
It's free to try since you already own the 2070. No need to advance purchase a GPU upgrade.

It's oftentimes hard to go off of review results since they typically test with the fastest possible CPU and at ultra quality settings.

Well, 5800x would be a great upgrade and you can keep your MB. If by Stock cooler you mean the one from 2600 it's nowhere good enough, no chance and as you know 5800x doesn't come with one and that's because AMD doesn't have any that's good enough for it. If you plan to drug out every ounce of 5800x, 360AIO or best possible air cooler are a must.
As adding RAM is pretty iffy proposition you might as well go for 2x8GB or if you feel it's not enough then 2x16GB, in both cases you might as well go for 3600MHz which should keep you happy until switch to new platform. As for AIO, maybe you should look at Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360, I'm very satisfied with it and think it's netter than NZXT Kraken .
Also consider an M.2 NVMe SSD, 500GGB or larger.

I mean....the 5800X draws 120W with PBO enabled. Not exactly necessitating a 360mm AIO on that basis.
On that basis maybe but that's not only one to calculate electrical
Watts, there's also Voltage as well as PPT 142W, TDC 95A and EDC 140A. Heat is just aresult of wasted energy.
At full performance and load on all cores middle to high 80's C is quite common even with 360 AIO.
AMD moved up boost limiting temps from about 70c on 3000 series Ryzen to 90 c for Zen3 but that doesn't mean you should puxh them that high for prolonged time or limit performance just because of inadequate cooling.
PS. Overdoing cooling also ensures quitter operation as fans can turn slower.
