Plastic thing on back of MoBo

hello people, there is a weird plastic thing on the back of my motherboard, and i dont know what it is, i bought an aftermarket cooler and i cant install it with this thing on the back...(i think), does anyone know what this is?

Without a picture nor a name/model number of your mobo its hard to diagnose. If I had to guess I'd say you have an AMD based motherboard, and you may have bought a cooler for an Intel. Let us know the information as well as the pic. Thanks.

well idk why that link doesnt work... but its an MSI A78M-E35 Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard

Yup, all you need to do is remove the two plastic mounts from the CPU socket, take the backplate off, then install the new backplate and mounts.

So theres nothing in your combination that should prevent that cooler from working with it. The cooler comes with 2 sets of brackets, one set is for an Intel CPU, you don't need it. The other is just a metal bar with a push down clip, this is the one you need to clip the heatsink onto that plastic bracket that should be installed around your CPU.

The screws that hold the two little brackets also hold the backplate in place, this video will show you how -

There are some coolers that just clip on to the stock AMD brackets, such as the H100, but for the 212 EVO, you will need to remove the backplate and brackets.
