Hello forum,
I am finally upgrading my rig after all these years and i am somehow lost. I want a value upgrade cause i wont upgrade for atleast 3-4 years i believe. Because of the current situation in the PC market, i am gonna start with a CPU+MOBO+RAM upgrade and get the rest down the line. I already have a case, a gtx 970, peripherals, a 1080p144Hz monitor so i can use my current setup and upgrade it step by step. I might get a 1440p144 or 1080p240 or 1440p ultrawide but i dont want to invest on that yet, maybe next year.

So i have a budget of 700euro for a CPU+MOBO+RAM but its better for me to spend less if the perfomance is negligible.
I am gonna use the rig mainly for gaming(competitive high fps) with some apps in the background discord, chrome etc.
I thinking of an 5600x (but i am skeptical with the 6c/12t it offers, in many benchmarks it tend to use 70-80%, and i dont now how it
will perfom in the future), with a b550 aorus pro and 2x8GB Crucial Ballistix 3600 CL16 ( i will add an extra same kit for 4x8GB configuration).

I am gonna mention some cpus i can find in my country:
i9 10900F - 395,16 €
R7 3800XT - 370,00 €
R5 5600X - 334,00 €
i7 10700KF - 317,81 €
R7 3700X - 297,65 €
R5 3600XT - 265,00 €
i7 10700F - 275,81 €
i5 10600KF - 227,60 €
R5 3600 - 197,87 €
i5 10400F - 141,81 €

Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance guys

I was browsing the stores online and checking for prices and i found that:
  1. 5600x+ B550 Aorus Pro + 16GB 3600 CL16 , and
  2. 10700K + Z490 Aorus Elite + 16GB 3600CL16
Cost the same (650euros both combos). I already have a Cryorig H5 Ultimate, its compatible with 1151 socket, i believe with 1200 too. So lets say i have a cooler for the i7.
What do you think might be the better pick in this occasion? I could easily pull the trigger on the i7 but i am concerned for the high tdp and power draw of i7 in PL2 State\Overclocked cause it gets kinda hot in the summer, about 32+ Celsius
(I might do a mild OC on CPU\Ram when i get an AIO)

Is it better to pick something like:
  1. 3600+ B550 Aorus Pro + 16GB 3600 CL16...

I'd consider nothing less than 10700K/5600X or 5800X for a new rig nowadays...(and as everyone is a content creator these days, no on frowns on a 5900X for that crowd!)
I am not interested in streaming, or creating videos etc. Just a casual/competitive gamer who want to have fun in the weekends with friends etc

3600 is the best value for money compromise.
It should be able to give you more than 100fps on 1080p but on 2k/4k you're bottlenecked by the graphics card.
The 3600 can easily run a Radeon 6800 so depending on what graphics card you're going to go for it will depend what CPU.
I don't see the point in all the X and XT variances.. to me they're just a waste of money unless you're trying to hit stupid fps on 1080p
In terms of core/threads 6/12 is enough for today's games and games for a few years to come.

Sure the 5600X is a different kind of beast but at 2k it doesn't do anything different to the 3600.
As a gamer you won't see the difference in performance in 2K, just 1080p and that depends on the game/settings.
So if the 3600 can give you 144fps for that game then the 5600X won't give you anymore if the monitor is capped at 144hz ie 144fps.
So it really depends how much money you want to spend and what graphics card you're going to get and what monitor you're going to get.

My 2 choices would have been the 3600 or the 5600x for that dilemma.
I'm actually waiting myself for the 5600 non X variant which I predict will perform very similar to the 5600X but with a much smaller price tag or snatch a 3600 when they drop in price.

I would go for 10400F.Its the best price to performance cpu in my opinion, and its not that behind the 5600X in gaming, and its better than 3600 in gaming. Also you have upgradability to Rocket Lake
