Play movies on TV through external drive

Hi,

I recently bought an external hard drive and I want to connect it directly to the TV in order to watch movies or series.

But, when I open the files on the TV, there's either no image or no sound.

Could it be a problem of the TV itself (software)? Should I do something else before trying to watch the movies?

Can somebody help me with this?

Check the user's manual for the TV. It should identify what the supported formats are for directly connected video (MP4, codec, etc).

I checked the manual. It went like this: USB player (video / photo / music):
Supported formats: AVI, H-264, JPEG, BMP, MKV, MP3, WMA, MP4, MPEG, VOB, 3GP, sub, srt.

The type of file I tried to use was MKV. And in some cases no image, other cases no sound.

I'm using the USB cable that came with the external hard drive.

According to Google, MKV files are difficult to play through a USB cable. Try playing a different format and see if the problem persists.

I tried with MP4 files and the problem persists. The only types of files are MKV and MP4
