1. I'm just curious, if i want to setup RAID for my drives, What is the limitation of number of drives can be used?
2. In my vfx job , most of the time i'm working with image sequeces. If i have dpx file sequence (editing 4k raw 16bit) and each of this single file is about 54MB in size. So if i want to play back real time 24 fps, it means i have to be able to stream data 54MBx24=1296MB/s or around 10Gb/s. Am i right with this rough calculation ? pls let me know if i'm wrong. What is external drive recommended to handle this ? i ussually use promise PEGASUS R6 for doing only 2k raw 10bit (9MB per file/frame) and works fine. But now with 4k raw 16bit (dpx) , i need 6x storage and speed . I need minimum 18TB-20TB storage space. Any suggestion ?

Thanks.

@FireWire2: i have a pegasus drives running at 450MB/s and it's far from enough. Sorry i may use 'raw' term incorrectly. It's not like red raw etc. This raw material has been transfered to dpx sequence 16bit. Also i can't use ssd, i have no budget for ssd because i need a lot of capacity... I need minimum 20TB. With ssd i can end up to more than $8000. My maximum budget is around $4500, so i need sata raid drive such as g-speed, areca or qnap which can have read speed above 900MB/s but will cost me below $5000.

As I said, the above is too much. How about this...
Get a 8x bays compact and quiet tower about $800.00
and 8x HDD 3TB with 5x yrs warranty, which about $80.00/ea - https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA5AD2AE0872.
So there less than $1500.00m you would have a 800MB/s read/write plus FIVE years warranty
🙂 you can have 3x of those for your budget $5000.00
