Player vs Player battles

Can two people with Red and Silver games battle against each other with
a GBA link cable? I tried it, but could never get the Red game to get
past the counter to battle another player. It looked like the Silver
game was waiting for response from the other player, but never got it
and eventually 'timed out'.
I got to thinking that maybe those two games being from different
series, may not be compatible battle wise? If that is the case, then
can Red and Yellow battle? What about Silver and Sapphire? I doubt it,
but I'm curious and would like to know for sure.
Thanks,

Red and Yellow can battle.
IIRC, the Chrommatics and Metallics couldn't battle each other. I know they
can trade (using the Time Trade Machine) if the Metallic copy was trading a
pokemon that existed in R/B/Y and the Pokemon had moves available in R/B/Y.
Haven't played the Jewels or Elementals yet, so can't really help you there,
but I doubt it.

Red/Blue/Yellow and Gold/Silver/Crystal are not compatible in any way
with the later ones for the Game Boy Advance. I haven't tried
battling between Ruby/Sapphire and Fire Red/Leaf Green, but it is possible
to trade between them (after a certain point in FR/LG).

Hey, I just thought of something. Can you load Pokemon from R/B/Y/ and G/S/C
onto Colliseum? And what this Box program I heard someone mention?

I haven't tried, but the documentation says no and I'd bet it means it.

Pokemon Box is a Gamecube product that allows the storage of something
like a thousand Pokemon on a Gamecube memory card, with a fairly decent
interface to move them back and forth. It works with R/S and also
with FR/LG once full trading is opened in the latter.

From what I hear it will work with Emerald as well but I think you are out
of luck with Gold/Silver/Chrystal which is a shame as I too am playing one
of those myself right now...

I got tired of waiting for Emerald and frustrated with trying to get my 50
straight battles in Ruby - I keep losing at 40 or 41. I replayed Colisseum
which wasn't really worth the replay and then picked up Gold which I am
enjoying...also grabbed Chrystal but from what I understand that is about
the same as Gold/Silver.

Wireless ^^ The programs can seek out the proper channels, I'm sure.
Besides, if they black list those pokemon again, they're gonna really be
looked down on. Heck, the cut between generations is probably what prompted
them to ship out the Elementals as remakes.

Also, internal. Pokemon Dash on DS scans the pokemon in your team on the
GBA
cartridge that you have inserted in the DS. So it will read your Jewel or
Elemental
team from your inert GBA cartridge and create racing tracks in your Dash
game.
