Playing Games on 2 Monitors with Dedicated and Intergrated GPUs

Hi guys,

I recently got a second monitor to use as a secondary output for my computer but my GPU (660 ti) only has 1 HDMI so I plugged in the 2nd HDMI into my motherboard and enabled integrated GPU in the BIOS. The thing is that I only use 1 monitor at a time and keep the other off so I ideally would like to be able to play games on both monitors (because 1 is a TV mounted above by desk and the 2nd is a 110 inch projector screen in my basement). Currently the TV is plugged into my dedicated GPU and the projector is plugged into the integrated GPU so my question is if I want to play games on my projector screen, will the computer run the game through the integrated GPU or use my 660 ti because I don't want to have performance issues and I don't want to switch the ports every time I switch monitors. Has anyone had a setup like this? If so any help would be appreciated.

the game will treat the integrated graphics as the gpu on the second monitor and it will cause compatibility issues . i doubt the game will even play honestly.. even if it manages to launch the game is going to treat the displays as dual gpu and then the integrated graphics is going force the 660 ti to work at its speed .. you dont want that trust me .. integrated graphics just plain sucks

If you don't know, don't feed them false info. I know you want to help but all it's doing is making it worse. You might as well be feeding peanuts to someone who is allergic. Compatibility is not relevant to anything pertaining to this issue. Even if you could sli, unless you enable cf or sli then games still only use 1 gpu.

When using multiple gpus and not in cf or sli, the gpu connected to monitor that is set to the main monitor in windows is the gpu that is used for games. It's also which monitor the game will full screen to. You can use virtu to run the dgpu through the igpu or vice versa but it's simpler/cheaper to just use another cable or an adapter. If you don't need audio then just use dvi. Otherwise dp to hdmi will keep the audio if you are stuck with using hdmi.

How do you use a "virtu", what does that mean. Can you explain how to set this up because it sounds like a good solution.

It's software and may not work on your specs. What's your specs? You also have to buy it and it can be buggy causing a decrease in performance. It's why I really don't recommend it and also said an adapter is cheaper.
