Hi,I am planning to purchase amd zen 8 core processor.Recently i heard that modern games only

utilize max four cores of the processor. So how is it that 8 core amd zen is known for accelerating

fps in modern games. Is it worth a buy?

We dont known how zen or Ryzen will perform yet. There are no benchmarks, besides a few render tests and that was likely a very expensive cpu since they were comparing it to a thousand dollar i7 5960x. The mainstream ryzen processors will likely be 2, 4, and 6 core with hyper threading, those have not been talked about yet to my knowledge. So I dont know if its worth a buy we will see in the coming weeks, but the 8 core cpu you are talking about will more than likely cost 700 dollars plus.

A lot of games utilize more than four cores battlefield 1 and GTA V for example. However single thread performance is very important in most games, AMD claims they have made large improvements there.

There's good indication that Zen CPUs will be in 4-core modules (not like construction core modules), so I don't expect to see 2 core or 6 core variants, at least at launch.

Zen's single-threaded performance will undoubtedly be lower when compared with Intel's Skylake and Kaby Lake CPUs. Because of this, you can expect to see higher core and thread counts at the same price level. E.g. 4c/8t Zen will probably be positioned more against i5's (4c/4t) than i7's (4c/8t).

My guess is that Zen will do very well in modern games, just like any modern, high cost Intel CPU. Pentiums struggle mostly because they're cheap, and FX's struggle because they're nearly 5 years old. Zen is a new design and will almost certainly perform similarly to an Intel CPU at the same price level - I doubt AMD is going to start a price war while they're on the edge of bankruptcy.
