Playing non-Steam games with my friends

I was wondering if a friend and I would be able to buy Black Ops 3 off of Amazon and be able to play with eachother, not via steam. I am a pc noob btw.

Black Ops 3 still requires a Steam account even if you buy the disc version. You will find that almost every PC game requires an account with Steam, uPlay, Origin, or another form of DRM depending on who published the game even if you buy a disc copy.

To play with a friend you will each need your own copy of the game and your own Steam account.
