Hi - I'm using an ASUS CG5290 system with Vista-64, RAMPAGE II GENE MoBo, I bought pre-fab at Bestbuy that comes with a GTX 260 graphics card with 2 DVI out. Now, I read in the online manual for this video card that I could transmit digital audio via one of the DVI ports if I use a DVI-HDMI adapter. I read on several other forums that in order to take advantage of this option, I must use an internal SPDIF 2-pin cable that connects the onboard audio to the video card. I bought such a cable online, and also bought a DVI-D Dual link to HDMI converter, and connected this via an HDMI cable to my Samsung HDTV. No sound. Tried switching the orientation of the spdif pins, restarted. No sound.
1) There is no NVIDIA control panel option for redirecting sound
2) There is no BIOS option to redirect the onboard audio to the video card
3) I already have "SPDIF Interface" (SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio) selected as the default playback device under Sound Playback devices. Other selectable options include "Speakers" or "Digital Output" and I've tried selecting both.
I'm pissed off at best buy for not including an HDMI adapter or an SPDIF cable with the system they sold me, but whatever, I bought them separately. Sound was working fine using an optical cable to my theater-in-a-box receiver, but I'd really like to use the solution I described above because I have to switch out the optical cables every time I want to watch TV on my samsung or play Xbox!
Any advice or ideas? Thanks!
Gabe
