I just bought a laptop, but unfortunately it comes with an SSD with only 256 GB. I have many Steam games and others. During two years I can not open the notebook. I can lose the warranty. So I see myself forced to find a solution to play my games. The SSD has little space. Then I thought of an external solution. Is it possible to play Steam games from an external HDD 3.5" connected directly to my laptop by an USB 2.0 or 3.5 cable? And the other games, like GTA 5, WRC 5, The Witcher?
Thanks in advance

Yep that isn't a problem at all just set your steam library to the external drive. USB 2.0 might make game loading a little bit slow but that's it. Any portable hard drive will work flash drives even if you really wanted to.

Nope they will play just fine too. I've personally yet to find one that wouldn't let you install it to a different drive. I've actually even got a few installed to a microSD on my surface.
